The Netherlands played against Australia today in Rotterdam and the game ended with a result of 1-1.
Netherlands had a lot of great chances and played very offensively. The first goal was pretty bad defensive play by Australia where they let van Nistelrooy win the the header pretty easily and he served a open player who shot the ball, Schwarzer made one of many good saves today, but van Nistelrooy shot the ball into the net after Mark Schwarzer's rebounds.
Heitinga's shot where he just had to get the ball over the goalkeeper was also saved by Schwarzer who played amazing today.
van Bommel had a great oppurtunity to score, but the shot was saved by Schwarzer, on the upcoming corner he saved a shot from Sneijder very nicely. Australia had a lot of problems in the beginning of the game and had to play very defensive to get back into the game, but after Mark Viduka's header which Edwin van der Saar saved amazingly, they came back.
Australia started creating chances in the second half and Viduka was the main force offensively. Viduka had a couple of chances before he was given a penalty because he was denied by a Netherlands-player.
He shot the ball from the penalty spot, and hit the crossbar, the ball hit Edwin van der Saar's back and came off the post, the ball was then badly cleared by a hometeam defender, Tim Cahill picked that up and equalized, 1-1.
Australia could've played a lot better if they weren't punished with a red card, A correct one. Luke has to calm down.
van Persie had a couple of stunning chances to score on, but Schwarzer denied it all and got a draw for the Australians.
What a great game!
The Netherlands got four players injured in this game, Cocu, Sneijder, van Bronchorst, and van Bommel seemed to be a bit shakey after that tackle he was given by Luke Wilkshire, which rendered into a yellow card for the Australian.
