The solution to daycare is simple. If you cant afford to have kids... DON'T

agreed.

but we can't legislate who can have kids (which is really unfortunate, given the # of unfit parents out there)

So long as people can sit on welfare and take care of their kids at home, it completely discourages them from finding a job. i.e. why work a 40 hour week and pay for day care when staying home and collecting (or even just living off of one spouse's income) nets you about the same money? It's a rather sad rationale...but people do it all the time.

more people working + more kids in daycare is better for our economy than having a parent stay at home who WANTS to work, but can't afford private daycare.

In the old days if you were unfit to care for your children, they were taken as a ward of the state. And that included insufficient funds. The problem is that today we make it too easy for people to be lazy

LOL

so you don't want the state to pay for day care...but you're ok with the state assuming custody of kids of unfit parents.

um...personally I'd rather subsidize a kid's day care than pay for their entire upbringing

id rather see people take responsibility for themselves instead of calling upon big brother everytime they feel like it. If parents thought the state was going to take their kids, dont you think theyd find a job in a hurry?

Id argue to say that most people on welfare who are able bodied dont belong there.
