the fact that he can handle final scratch better than anyone else on the planet helps Hawtin also hams it up and does the unexpected.I can remember him dropping a full blown disco track in the middle of a very bleepy set.The club went nuts.(it wasnt music noobs either, the club was very selective about who they let in.)
ive never heard of minimalistic prog...although i have heard of minimal being layered with prog

if you think that is the only aspect of minimal you are wrong.
youre opinion on minimal is what those who listen to mainstream music tend to think of edm as a whole.
music doesnt always need a huge hooking baselin or addictive synths to get people grooving.
if you still cant get into it try some k

You have some of the worst taste of anyone on this forum so I dont think I'm gonna listen to you. And I doubt many other people will either.

Sadly, "electro" is the new "progressive"; a trendy prefix describing a general trend of production, which has achieved critical mass. The term is going to be with us as long as progressive has (or was), and will steer major genre movements for years to come.
Seeing this drives me nuts, because I can't stand the distorted retro synths and minimal production values. All across the board I see genres infected with the electro bug losing their traditional feeling and flavor, replaced with some hollow and soulless shell of saw waves and bleeps.
Just tragic. Clearly it appeals to others, but I don't understand it, and it's damn hard to find music I like in this mess. I suppose it's a natural progression from the epic mood of the 90s, though.

genres are retarded... music is music, enjoy it. there will be things you dont like but others love and vice versa... i'll listen to 80s disco if its got a nice groove to it. I dont like to base tracks on what genre they have but what it does to me... sounds good? i'll listen and play.

good point. The thing with hawtin is that he is playing the older tunes because they were good then, and they still sound fresh now. Im not the biggest fan of hawtin, but his sets are very good because he plays older shit (as you mention,so old you cant spot) and he rocks some new stuff. For Example, Lemon8 - model 8 old 93 record (yes, Harry lemon made a techno tune) a thirteen year old record that was white label and had a few pressings. Hawtin will release it on plus8 shortly.
