lol.. this thread is hilarious. The building of a driveway in front of a living space has been in the building code since the beginning of time. now if they expand there driveway away from there house into adjacent side property then there is no problems and the odds of 75% of your lawn being next to your house and not in front is quite slim. it's freaking markham.. Castles everywhere...
Parking in front of your house on the street? is that your street? do you own it? if i want you off it at midnight you better get moving.. live with it! what's the percentage of Markham house owners that have no driveway? 0.002%? I WANT A PRETTY STREET WITH NO CARS ON IT DAMN IT!!!
if you don't got a building permit, then your ass should be fined, too many times i have responded to some idiot who has nicked a gas line.. oooh yah that sounds like fun! if they don't grant your permit is because it's not to code.
I love it when people called to complain that something wasn't working and they start with the "well i was digging in my backyard", retards. |
building permit is one thing... tree cutting permit and $50 monthly street parking permit is another.

You also need a permit to put up a garage, erect a fence and undertake any major excavation or material change to the structure of your home...so why would you be surprised you need a permit to cut down trees? |
a tree cutting permit has only been in place in toronto for a few years. Building permits are for fire codes, safety etc. Tree cutting permit is so that neighbours can bitch and tell you to leave your tree up.
| quote: | | I think this particular parking law is a bit over the top...but I certainly don't agree that people should be allowed to do as they please and pave over as much of their property as they want (which would negatively impact surrounding property values). |
Why not? If they dont like what the next door neighbour is up to then they should move to where next door neighbours are not within field of vision from your house. ie) the countryside.
Im sick of all these laws that are in place because "it might offend someone's sense of good taste".
TOO FREAKING BAD!!!

Want to hear something really lame?
So my brother died 6 years ago and we had him buried. For years on his bday my mother would leave a balloon and a little plaque. Well this year they went missing.
Turns out that the cemetary changed hands and they passed bylaws saying that you could no longer leave "trinkets" at grave sites. Apparently some asshole complained about the newborn section being showered in gifts and memorabilia. Needless to say my mother was in tears and is still upset.
TOO FUCKING BAD IF YOU DONT LIKE WHATS ON SOMEONE'S GRAVE! DONT LOOK THEN YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE OF A HUMAN BEING! (sorry but this infuriates me)
This just falls in line with the selfish thinking behind laws like the one we are debating here. Or the host of other bans out there these days. Im sick and tired of it and we are considering a lawsuit.
People these days really piss the fuck out of me.... seriously.

And the justification for that is the prevention of a concrete jungle in Markham? |
Hate to tell you all folks, but ALL these subdivisions, be it Thornhill, Markham, Richmond Hill, etc... ALREADY look like concrete jungles, with brick houses piled one on top of the other, you could shake hands out the window with your neighbor next door, they're that close!!!
I lived in Thornhill for 7 mos when I 1st moved here. I could not understand for the LIFE of me why cars can't park on the streets at night. If everyone is sleeping at night, who cares?? No one's looking then anyways. Winter with the snow? Ok, I understand. But year round? Senseless! Those driveways are small enough, and as it is, you can't block the sidewalks that run thru them either, I'm sure. In DC, there are roads designated as "Snow Routes", that, in the event of snow, people can't park on them. No snow? Park to your heart's content.
With all these new families moving to the burbs, how the hell are they supposed to handle life w/sometimes a single-car garage, a single-car driveway, and then have to accommodate cars for 2 parents and 1 or 2 or more teenagers? What do u do when you have a full driveway & have out of town guests (w/a car) come to visit?
Often, if both my relatives cars were parked in the driveway, I'd have to parallel park my car across that bottom bit of the driveway (essentially blocking off the end of the driveway, leaving room for the sidewalk) like this =| and if you ask me, that looks more ghetto than just parking on the street to begin with.
And $70/month for a street parking permit, in the burbs?? That's highway robbery!!! You get 6 mos. downtown for that price!
