Dammit. You said it first.

Yeah, I would definitely say Kool Herc. Though Knuckles, Hardy, and Levan would be up there too.

The most respected trance DJ likely wouldn't crack the top100.....but if I had to choose.... either Lieb or Vath.

I don't need to have engaged in discussion with you to have read your posts. And for the record, they make me cringe HARD. You are a fan boy/girl. Just like PvDoBseSSioN and just like pvdAngel.

It is disgusting to read and I hate you.

PvD most respected DJ? Get a grip.

Really, stop being a twat. Believe it or not you are allowed to voice your own opinion. If someone elses opinion 'disgusts' you then I would suggest that it is you thats needs to get a grip.

people are interpreting "respect" in their own ways and making comments. I'd say admit that super star DJs have contributed to growing the scene and exposing different people to this genre. They stand on the border . they brings people into the scene. Now a days they don't do pure trance as a hardcore tranceaddicts think. They think super star DJs make only cheese and are not worthy of respect. but what got many of these trance addicts into trance ? was it some unknown DJ ? it was most probably a trance tune produced by some super star DJ. The line between production and DJing blurs when you ask such questions of respect. Most super star DJs spin their own anthems and have become popular mainly for that reason.

So IMO these DJs deserve huge respect.

And if you go deeper into trance then there are DJs who are to be respected for the quality of trance they spin. But their audience is less compared to that of super star DJs. Many people would not be listening to them had they not listed to PVD or Tiesto before.

Nearly everyone in this thread must be on glue.

Also the question was most respected dj of all time, not specifically trance dj.
BT? Tiesto? PVD? Shiloh? Andy Moor? Lawler? Who ever is passing the glue around someone please take it away. Is this amateur hour? Most respected of all time? Some of you should be very ashamed of yourselves for a few of those answers!

It all comes down to one man.

Sasha.

No one has stood the test of time like Sasha has.

In 1997 when the first ever DJ mag poll happened, he was ranked 3rd in the world. PVD was 42. Tiesto? Didn't even appear on the list til 2000 where he was #24. Tijs didn't break top 10 til 2001.

Here are Sasha's rankings since the poll's inception:

2005 - 4th
2004 - 4th
2003 - 4th
2002 - 2nd
2001 - 2nd
2000 - 1st
1999 - 3rd
1998 - 5th
1997 - 3rd

now I'm sure I don't have to mention that the DJ mag poll isn't the absolute holy bible of who is best, but I'll put this disclaimer in for the twat that otherwise would have likely posted that redundant note

I think by now Sasha should be knighted and/or have his own holiday where everyone wears wigs & aviators to pay their respect.

id say either sasha or john digweed. dudes have been spinning since the raving days and still keep their sound fresh and unique.

*edit* forgot to say BT. hes a musical mastermind and can blow the crowd away with his laptop (breaks, trance, w/e) his live sets and if he wanted to with his piano alone

So basically what you've somehow managed to do here is make a very shit point, and then 'cleverly' followed it up with the acknowledgement that it is a shit point, so in the end no other fucker need point out that it is in fact, a shit point.

Well done.

For bloody christ mikey. Although the DJ Mag isn't the holy bible, it is FAR FROM consisting of 100% useless information and I would challenge you to cite a singular better & unflawed source. Sure there are questionable rankings over the years with certain people due to production related hype (I personally believe ATB has no place in the top 10 now or ever as a DJ) but do you think Sasha ever got his high ranking due to some noob voting for him because they liked 9pm til I come etc? If someone puts out a popular track and jumps up in the ratings a yr or two so be it. But you'd have to be a complete moron to dismiss the rankings Sasha got for the 9 years since it started.

Woah... he was one of the three Godfathers (or is it Grandfathers? Something important, at any rate) of hip-hop, along with Flash and Bambaataa. Three DJs who've had more impact on modern music culture than any other three individuals in the last century.
