Hmm, well perhaps things have been different since I lived there (2002-2004). I know that "official" trance nights were few, and frankly I didn't go to many, but I always felt Lawrence got great respect from the rave community there, some of whom embraced his tougher style versus Mars & Mystre wank north and European epic imports.

Have you been to New York for clubbing? Or even browsed NYTA to see reviews and pics of the trance events? Every big trance event here is packed to the gills. As for "grassroots," there is no "grassroots" anything in New York. You can't do anything cheaply here, which means big name DJs in large clubs is the scene.

I won't deny that house is also big here, as well as techno somewhat (there's no DnB for the most part), but to say that Cali has the only trance scene is a little ridiculous.

i'd say the northwest is pretty good. it's a bit on the housey side but we still get the likes of armin, pvd. oakey was here last week (but that really shouldn't be a selling point lol). but i am going to andy moor next weekend. that should be fun.

i live in portland, oregon now which isn't as good as seattle. i used to live there and i used to go every other weekend.

On a more serious, less poetical note, austin is where I'm at basically. It's great in the south. Very good scene. Very underground. Very. We are thugs mostly. Most people are large and scary down here and thug it up a little. We have to be very open to underground hip-hop (think like jedi mind style) to survive. Trance set must be sandwiched between slices of raw hiphop to be swallowed. You must open your mind to that if you want a scene. The whole thing is VERY dark, and much more electro/IDM/industrial in it even when "trance", think James holden sound. The pvd, tiesto sound but grassroots would only be in underground gay bars in the south. That's austin. You'd have fun, but you can't expect anything but a new experience.

There are a couple clubs in Denver that have big names quite frequently, only each time I go there are only a handful of people who actually know who's spinning.
