Try 5 or 6 tracks. I'd say quite the opposite that the tracks are more house inspired like the 'praiseworthy tunes' track. One might argue that it's tech-trance, but I get a different vibe out of that song for some reason. It feels housey to me. Anyways let's not make this into a genre war.

he's doing it for the love. plain and simple. unlike some other clowns i could mention *cought*armin*cough*oakey*

anyway i just tend to feel tiesto's stuff and i think this set shows his true form. it's inspired me in many ways. i've been listening to trance for many years now and tiesto is the only big name that really hasn't let me down like the others. Blank and Jones, Armin, Oakey, all jokes. PvD and Ferry are ok but I was never into their style as much. I owe tiesto a lot for what he has done for me in terms of pure enjoyment and inspiration and i hope in some way he realizes that.

/cheesy rant

I love Tiesto as much as the next guy, but when a set is bad, it's bad, although I do agree with most of what you said.

you may not like the tune but it's not a rippoff.

Were you reading my complaint in the dance4life thread?

true oakey is in a league of his own in terms of shit. armin is no-where near oakey. but it's just my view-point that armin isn't really in it for the passion. or at least his contributions don't do it for me. i'm the opposite when it comes to the shows i've been to. could be chance, could be taste.

You've just said two very different things but linked them into one... Having said that its about taste and you just not liking his style, has nothing to do with his passion... If you've EVER seen Armin live, and watched him,as you say you haven't really done because you dont like the 'fluffy dreamy epic' which mind you, he doesnt play much of these days... even though I personally like that stuff... but anyways, Armin is the most vibrant, enthusiastic guy in any dj booth that i've ever seen!!!!! Past Armin Only show that I saw in NYC, he spent EVERY minute of the 6.5 hours he played interacting with the crowd... Tiesto??? Lets not talk about the cocky interaction he has, of interacting more if you are a hot girl or not... And read any interview with Tiesto or Armin.. you get a vast difference... Armin states in every single one how much its all about the music, whereas Tiest0or clearly admits that he spent the last 2 years on autopilot without thinking much about the music or what he was doing (sounds really enthusiastic eh?) until regaining his love for the music... oh yeah.. cuz he wasn't #1 in DJ mag anymore... If anything, Armin has done a lot of the same things that Tiesto did, but much more true-to-passion-of-music rather than to cash in... and I think most people would agree with me... I don't argue about taste, because to each his own, but it just seems almost wrong to say the guy who is probably the most passionate and enthusiastic of all the top DJs, is oakey-like or rather 'close to Oakey' as you corrected?? Just plain WRONG!

PS (i.e. back on topic from my rant): This set is nice.. Not my ideal cup of tea but I like different stuff too and I thought it was cool despite my general liking of fluffy epic stuff as well

i would say armin is mostly in it for the music, and loves what he plays. however, i can't help thinking he's lazier than tiesto when it comes to mixing & tune selction. the times i've seen him out his sets have been more predictable & less vibrant than the ones i've seen tiesto play, and he seems more content with playing the same set night in, night out, full of 'safe' tunes he knows the crowd loves. on the other hand, the last time i saw tiesto out he played a 6 hour set, and a good 2/3 of it i didn't recognise, including a solid hour or so of driving dark techtrance towards the end. and i never once got bored since he'd take various different directions throughout the night, drifting between floaty, epic & techy & even some housey stuff without it ever sounding disjointed.. throwing in the odd classic when you least expect it

as for the mixing.. armin may make fewer mistakes (altho even tijs sounds like fucking sasha compared to oakey in his EM ) but it's just the same standard harmonically matched fade in/fade out most of the time, which can get boring after a while. tiesto on the other hand will occasionally mix out of a mini-break or bring a track in earlier than you'd expect.. which can sometimes sound odd but other times awesome

and i don't really think you can put one far above the other in terms of crowd interaction. they both have decent attitudes to what they do from what i've seen

I've said both. I'm not into his style. Probably because it's unispired which is another reason that leads me to belive he lacks much passion.

As isoterra said his mixing is full of standard, key-matched fade-in/fade-out transitions. Very uninspired and robotic if you ask me.

Actually if you could read properly I said I've seen him twice and both times bored the shit out of me. Learn to use periods.

I really don't give a shit if the DJ is jumping around and smiling wide. If his tunes are boring, what's the point.

who gives a shit about the political diatribe they go into about their love for the music. talk is cheap. and lol at your interpretation about "every interview with tiesto". talk about biased.

never said he was Oakey-like. I just put him in a category of DJs that have let me down. It does come down to taste probably and Armin does have a lot going for him as a producer and a DJ ( much more than Oakey). There's just some things that are unforgivable.

Namely Serenity.

Well, true, those tracks do walk the line closely. But you have to admit that they are very trance inspired. And I doubt you'd see any house DJ play that Orange Theme mix. Or even Sunhump and Float Away.

Side Note:
I can see why some would complain about him raising Praisworthy Tunes from the dead but he obviously did it because it blended and complimented the previous track f-ing brilliantly.

haha true, i find those to be superb shit as well. but that's tastes.

Serenty was an abomination because it was a serious rip-off of Adiago for Strings. An unforgivable act.

And I'm not talking about sampleing or sharing qualities. No, it was a blatant attempt to exploit the success of the Adiago mix. Such a shame.

This can be compared to Oakenfold's blatant copy of Steve May - Blend Forty-3 (Luke Chable And Steve May Remix) with Save the Last Trance for Me.

This type of thing shows their true colors imo.

i agree with djy2g33, i was front and center for both nights and it was clear armin wasn't there to make a quick buck. given it was an extended asot, but he threw in stuff like buy now - sold which isn't very asot-ish. if you don't like asot i can see why you would think it's boring...also,armin like tiesto overuses the jesus pose and i don't call that entertaining

The difference is quite simply defined by the receding hair line of Armin... Tiesto has it. Armin hasn't.

The end.
