Umm... What? Better than what? Bad music?

Well, sorta. I mean, i'm kind of just coming up with this as i type so its going to be sketch, but lets break it down a little.

When you hear static, noise on the radio, its not pleasant. Obv. Sounds waves are on a continuous spectrum, it doesn't just make a discrete jump from noise to music. Right? So wouldn't it be logical to beleive that there IS 'better' music.

More refining. Humans are evolving, isn't it also logical to believe that the musical taste of humans is evolving too?

How exactly did you make the connection from random sounds to composed sounds? Noise is noise, music is music.

Each individual has his own taste in music, and anything else. I could very easily enjoy listening to static as a form of music. Who are you to tell me that it is not good?

Even if you argue from a mathematical stand point (composing music according to chords, etc.), music still boils down to individual perception. That has always been and that will always be.

good question, the audio spectrum explains why we like certain pitches and tones better than others but not their relative spacing and timing in composed sounds.

do you agree with the evolution of music part?

In this discussion its important to generalize. I'm not saying that there are a (strange) few that like listening to static, all the power to them. Lets keep the sample space large.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, so I'm not sure. how do you define evolved music? Is classical music more evolved than 50's music?

Secondly, music enjoyment is a very very subconscious inherent human trait. The beats of the drums found in African tribesmen is essentially the foundation for a LOT of tracks today, particularly in the DNB, Hip-Hop, and Breaks genres. Your "evolved" music idea kinda falls apart because even the newest genres (those would be the evolved ones, right?) still use very basic traits found throught mankind's history.

Do you mean in the sense that music will become more complex?

Music is a form of art, i dont think art has neccesarily evolved to be "better" in a sense, it has however changed as we have, this doesnt however make modern art better or worse the classical.

I don't think my point gets broken down but actually supported. Have humans COMPLETELY changed through time? As far as the physical aspect, not really (we've always had 4 limbs). The primitive african drums are the foundation of lots of genres but have been complemented by other sounds too.

This is quite an open ended discussion eh? No difinitive end. Music is FUCKED.

Some people are better at interpreting music than others. There is such a thing as better music. Some music better matches the average human biogical structure than other music, getting a more tuned response from the body. Obviously, no 2 people are the same.
