oh man. if thats all you want to know i can explain that real quick and easy.
why do people like music? one of the reasons is they listen to it to feel better, it can put them in a better mood. music is a drug in that sense.
why do people like chocolate, ice cream, or candy? sugar makes you feel better, makes you happy. kids get excited when they hear the ice cream truck for a reason. sugar is a drug in that sense.
this list could get really long ... massages, hot showers, jumping in a swimming pool, air conditioners, anything that makes you feel better. you dont NEED these things, you can have fun without them, but they definitely are nice and enjoyable. drugs are exactly the same thing. you dont need them, but they're very enjoyable. thats it! nothing more to it. people get addicted to sugar and get fat, or tv and become lazy, or crystal meth and get skinny. some people are screwed up in the head and use (err, abuse) drugs or anything else to make them feel better to compensate, thats where you come in.
practically all drugs come from the same place ... plants (except for one which is secreted from a certain type of toad, people lick the toad and get high). its just humans being crafty going around in the woods and sampling every plant, creature, anything the earth has to offer, experimenting over millions of years, and finding things that make them feel good, beyond just things that they need to survive.
and this just covers the feel good aspect of drugs, there's the spiritual aspect to some drugs (psychedelics) as well, just as there's the spiritual effect of some types of music too.
