As for the costs of living in Canada, yes, they are high. You don't like it? Get the f*** out of Toronto, out of the bigger urban areas. It is not nearly as expensive in the more 'remote' regions of Canada. This is just how it is, for a multitude of reasons. Deal with it.

Thanks for writing this, the whole time reading this thread I was sitting here pulling my hair out thinking to myself the exact things you've written. It really pisses me off hearing people complaining about what it's like to live in Canada when they have made the decision to move here. If you don't like what it costs to live here move somewhere else, I'm getting tired of hearing all this bullshit. I have absolutly no problem paying the taxes that I do knowing that I live in one of the best countries in the world. And yes it is one of the best countries in the world, if it wasen't then why would you want to move here in the first place.

Pfft

I love it here, I loved it in England too - doesn't mean I have to be happy about half my wages disappearing on tax, does it????

Very interesting read....

I lived in Canada for a year and would happily do it all over again.

Taxes may be way higher there than they are in Australia, for example....but it compensates elsewhere....We get ripped of hard in Australia. You guys have no idea how lucky you are.

Most things you buy here you can get for more or less half the price in Canada....cars, clothes, etc...especially the parties! LOL

Also the price you see here is what you pay - unlike Canada where you have to add the tax on, something I always forgot everytime I went shopping there haha

Has its pros and cons everywhere I guess.

Lot of the big expenses you speak of can be eliminated by moving to a smaller town..

no parking costs
50% reduction in rent cost

right there ur already saving urself 800-1000 a month..

Great savings, now I can throw it all into car/gas commuting to work now that I've found cheap rent outside the city.

i have to admit, partying here is cheap as fuck. Yet people still moan and bitch about it. i find clothes expensive here though. But we have a pretty good deal when it comes to electronics (except for the states which is way cheaper)

so the waitress brought u food and drinks...thats her job. so u have to tip her for doing her job good??

how bout a guy that works in a factory? when u buy a product in a store, why not look where it was made and go there and tip the guy that made it for u??

i do give tips cuz i feel like i have to.

the thing that really pisses me off is the automatic tip that is added in some restaurants..sometimes up to 19%..RIDICULUS

some ppl say u have to tip in restaurants cuz the waiters are not paid enough, well thats not my problem. maybe if we stopped tipping the employer will start paying good wages.

The Ontario minimum wage for a waitress is actually a dollar less than the regular minimum wage (which is fricken pennies anyway).

If you don't tip your waitress, they are fucked.

Sure, it would be nice if they changed the rule so that tip wasn't required, but ONE person not tipping isn't going to change an entire cultures custom, and instead will take away from the money the waitress should be rightfully making.

We should cancel welfare, and put all that money into a new course in High School called "Common Sense and Living Basics: How not to suck, moron!"

As much as I agree that a lot of people shouldn't be on welfare, there are a LOT of people who justifiably need financial assitance. I personally think that it should be made a little more difficult to recieve it, but I don't think it should be taken away completely.

I'm just curious... does anyone know what the numbers are of country vs. country debts?

In general, I think Canadians are a little too fucking whiny about shit. We are one of the richest countries in the world; we have far more than millions of other people, we are so incredibly spoiled and yet all we do is sit around and complain about stupid petty things like the $55 dollar tranfer fee for Bell.

Guess what! There are millions of people who can't afford a phone period, so quit your whining.

These things are privelages. If you want them, you have to pay for them, and if you don't like it, then don't have a phone. Use a payphone or something.

Same with cars, and furniture. If you want it, you need to pay for it. If you want someone to cart it to your house, and have people put it in your living room for you instead of using your own lazy ass to do it yourself, then pay for it and STFU. Why should people be doing you favours?
