When was the engine last ran ?

if it's been stood for a while, you can't expect the engine just to start and be as it was.
Its going to need to be stripped, the bores will prolly be rusty, the piston rings may even be rusted to the bores, plugs and ignition circuit will need replacing as the high tension leads will more than likely have perished and on a car of that age, the contact points will also have corroded.
Its had no lube running around the cams / valve gear, no lube on the crank and shells, the oil pump is prolly full of gunked up old oil, so will need replacing or cleaning, the cooling system will need a damn good flush, new hoses, new thermostat, the transmission oil will need changing as will the oil in the differential, and thats just the start lol, you are gonna get your hands dirty with that one!

lol you'd be surprised how much work an engine can get. engines and tranny's can be rebuilt even if they've been locked. locked in terms of metal molding on metal from sitting in old oil, those pieces and be machined and or bought ************ of what year the car was made. The worse part of "doing the work" when lifting the engine is changing the wires + harnesses, rubber hosing through out which is a bitch...even the tiny crack vaccum hose can throw a carb'd engine into fits....trust me it's happened to me on my 86 K9 Chevy Silverado (which got stolen after my dad and I spent 5 years working on it. For the life of me I swore a plug was misfiring, i ended up going through 2 sets of plugs and wires before i noticed the vacuum hose crack...needless to say i kicked myself multiple times (and my dad kicked me multiple times)

all in all you will end up spending MONEY, either way lol..you just can't get around to restoring for cheap. there is no work arounds no short cuts when it comes to engine, tranny, suspension work. You might be able to get away with after market suspensions with fit kits which might make the ride a bit more pleasurable though...

trust me I haven't even started looking at the grand prix se, i know for a fact just rolling it out will be hell...

Cooling systems on older model cars aren't like the ones today. Meaning your AC in your car now is not how it works prior to technology advances. AC had belts that turned a compressor which when combined with a can of freon is how we produced "cold air conditioning"

if i remember correctly it was R20? or R22 freon

AC? hahaha i live in the UK remember, AirCon is a fairly new thing (last 15 years) to UK and Europe and its not standard equipment on the majority of modern cars sold here, its an option lol, my car does not have AC fitted althou i can get a kit to convert my car to run AC

ahhh another myth, most of europe is strictly governed by speed limits, top speed in the UK is 70mph.

Yes Germany does have autobahns with no speed limits on them but not a vast network of them, speed in germany is also strictly regulated.

You don't have the GATSO (shudders) fixed speed cameras on the side of all the roads that dish out £60 fines and 3 points on your licence (get more than 12 points and your license is suspended, which depending on how many times its been suspended in the past, the suspension can last from 2 weeks to 10 years! (a 10 year suspension is also given out for DUI offences)

You also don't have the LTI 20-20 which is a mobile laser based speed gun, been proven to flawed but our government and police force still use it as it gets them lots of revenue for speeding tickets.
Most people just take the ticket and pay the fine (which is what the government rely on) however if you contest your ticket from a LTI 20-20 it usually goes in your favour and the ticket is waivered.
In a independent study shown on UK television, they tested this speed camera and it recorded a brick wall doing 17 miles per hour LOL

you didn't have to shatter my ridge_racer dreams by telling me the autobahn is false, i feel the need to shift with my left hand..probably much easier than the USDM right hand shift market

up until this year my general theory on speed limits were that they applied to everyone else but me. but now that i got nailed with high risk insurance.... i drive like a grandmother. i cant even afford to insure my baby anymore 72.5 maverick witha 400 small block chev.


the only fun cars i got to drive in the last 6 months were at work

and ironically enough most of them were police cars....
