Thanks, the support of people around me is inspiration enough to quit. I think it is very therapeutic to go where people are smoking, stand there, explain that I've quit, and then go on my way.

Will power. I made the decision to do it and that was it. I cut down gradually months in advance to when I knew I was going to quit, which made it even easier:

I quit smoking in November after 10 years, and it was surprisingly easy.

The main thing was recognizing how pathetic it was that I let myself become a slave to such an unhealthy, disgusting habit.

I smoked mostly out of boredom, so breaking the habit was most important for me. Once I did that, I smoked a lot less (duh), and made my eventual termination a lot easier.

Smelling other smokers really helped (and still helps) too. They stink to the point of nausea, and I find it really irritating. I just tell myself "That's what YOU smelled like! Ew gross! YOU'RE gross!!" Amazing how much that helps, lol.

I dunno...you REALLY have to want to do it, because aside from the physical addiction...it's all in your head.

It's also good to acknowledge your cravings when you have them, instead of ignoring or denying it. The feeling only lasts a couple minutes, and the sooner you accept it's there, the sooner it goes away.

Drink LOTS of water!

I've also made some other lifestyle changes...eating better, getting regular exercise, drinking less alcohol, no more hard drugs...so smoking REALLY doesn't fit.

Plus, I'm going to be a nurse...it's important for me to be an example of health if I'm going to be an advocate for other people's health.

It's just plain stupid!

Cut off your hands, then you won't be able to hold the cigarette
