Is this night going to become a regular thing? I like techno, I like minimal, and I like sonic's sound system.

Even with the drama/bashing in this thread, I'm curious to check out the next night if its going to become a monthly event.

Lighthouse (Umar) and I were both there. Who is "defending the night", as you put it, that wasn't there? Jon Jon and Highroller are very familiar with the club, the scene in Toronto, and the musical genre....why shouldn't they have an opinion? Everyone I was with had a great time, except for you, and we all know you are a hard man to please (no pun intended).

My guess is that if Sonic had Red Circle back in the next month, they would have an even smaller crowd.

Balderdash. For every person you disuade from giving them a chance, I will convince 5 others to give them a shot. All of these guys are extremely talented and deserve our support.

(P.S. And no, I don't know any of the guys in Red Circle, nor am I a promoter for Sonic.)

I guess we will have to see what the future of Sonic brings. Hopefully in the future we won't be missing Sonic like we miss Boa.

Andrew...wow are you ever emotional about this one! Firstly, I do not recall EVER saying that I hated it or that I did not have a good time...what I said was that it was not my cup of tea and that I found it hard to dance to...

Also, I am NOT in the business of disuading anyone from going to Sonic...on the contrary...and that you know!

I don't pretend to be an expert on music. I will never know the names and producers of anything I hear...nor will I ever be able to accurately describe the "genre" of any given night...but i do know what i like to hear and what I like to dance to...and this was not it...not that it was BAD...it was just not for me...

Not exactly. I think I'm just frustrated by the negativity, especially when it is targeted (either directly or indirectly) towards local talent. There were so many good things about Saturday, and I personally thought it was great to hear these guys in a larger venue such as Sonic (not in smaller places such as paaez and toibar). They certainly looked like they were having fun, as I would imagine most other djs in the city would be when playing in that room...

Anyway, I totally respect it wasn't your "thing". Peace. Hopefully Copeland and Chab will deliver the goods for you this weekend...

Andrew....I have been a big fan of Kenny Glasgow for a LONG time...back to his Boa days when he opened a couple of times a month, and the good old days of Industry!

I have gone to see him at Fluid several times as well!

I have ALWAYS supported local talent...Sean Miller, our TA boys, Rampant...Brad, the Guv group...in fact, we usually make a point of supporting local talent every Friday night, at different venues across the city.

It was NOT the local talent that I struggled with, it was the kind of music they played...

I am SURE the next few weeks at Sonic will be amazing...I will be there...that is a certainty...to support locals or whoever is in the booth!

I agree. Me too.

I have been a fan of Kenny Glasgow way back from Industry days. Now those were parties!!! I just didn't like the kind of music played on Saturday. I'm still a fan of Kenny Glasgow though.

Jonny White - Sonic - Feb 2007

Note that the set starts a bit slow and requires a bit of patience to get into it, but well worth the wait, IMO. Good stuff.

Ok, I'm TOTALLY digging this set! Definately not the typical Jonny White I'm used to...he's gone down a more minimal approach. There's a Shonky tune in there too Would have LOVED to hear this live and on the Sonic sound system. IMO Sonic needs some of this...there's so many deejays that Sonic would suit....and a change in sound once in a while is very refreshing.

This Saturday was the first event I missed at Sonic since December. I would of loved to go this weekend, but had other plans which could not include sonic for 1 weekend (I actually felt guilty missing 1 week! LOL) I have been really getting into the minimal sound lately, but I can understand why it is not for everyone. Even myself, I have to be "in the mood". The fact that they took a chance and booked a night like this is great. They tried something new. Not every night will work out, but its nice to have some variety and experiment a bit.

The next 3 weeks look amazing and I am already looking forward to seeing the names Carey has in store for us in March!
