The name change is a prime example of desperate marketing. I've partied at Eleven50 since early 2002 and to me, it will always be, Eleven50. The only reason you would ever change the name of an established, and succesful venue is to alter your marketing stragety to a new crowd. I completly support new renovations in layout and sound design, but honestly, the name Opera, is terribly un-inviting for EDM. Eleven50 is a legend in Atlanta. Few clubs other than Backstreet, The Riviera, and MJQ have reached that level of success and sustainabiltiy. My only hope is that the "current" club owners/investors aren't aiming to market to the Midtown crowd, as Compound did, ultimately sealing their fate as a wash of a venue for any serious EDM fan.
Whatever the purpose is, I hope that Eleven50 is able to sustain itself as the primary venue for major EDM acts. I have too many memories in that club to pass off the purpose to a hollow and empty commercial venue, seeking to gain a buck by representing itself as a whore to hip/hop and Top 40 dance a.k.a, Star 94 or 95.5, the beat. I only saw Mike B grace the Eleven50 stage once, and it was the most horrific opening set I've yet to hear in the A.T.L.
