GOD DAMN! I stop osting overnight and already this thread has turned back into bashing a genre instead of actuallt talking about the topic!
Look: I listen to hiphop. I listen to trance. I listen to rock. I listen to pretty much everything other than country, which I USED to listen to.
When I listened to country, I didn't want to be a redneck. When I listen to rock, I don't want to be a freak, when I listen to trance, I don't want to take X. AND WHEN I LISTEN TO RAP, I DON'T WANT TO BE A THUG!
All of you who have said that hiphop is popular because all the "cool" kids listen to it are jaded, and extremely so.
mmmmkay, so alot of the black people have baggy pants and smoke weed. so? Alot of Trancers have blue hair and do X. so? IT IS THE GOD DAMN CULTURE!
And stop saying white and black people in relation to hiphop. You know Def Jam records? first major hiphop label? helped startoff Sugar Hill Gang and Beistie Boys? Yeah, 2 people started it. One was Rick Rueben. The guy looks like Rob Zombie. big white guy. Stop with the racial stereotyping. It does nothing but make you look stupid.
Another thing alot of you have said is that hiphop is great for the younger kids. That is also bullshit. You think these little kids start record companyies? ummm...no. When you are little you can't understand the culture, you might like the beat. When you get older is when you can actually appreciate the genre.
All of you who flame on hiphop, IN ANY WAY need to get educated first. I think that as long as you people who are dissing the genre have no knowlage of it, it is no better than the racism of the slavery days or the Native American days. You are still shitting on a culture you have no knowlage of. There is no difference. It is people like you who are holding the world of music from what is can truely acheive. May you one day have your eyes open.

listen, "underground" rap is the biggest load of BS. every underground rapper's goal is to make it in the big times and make money off their music. I remember a few years ago Rass Kass was big on the "underground" scene and "underground" people thought they were cool if they listened to them , i turn on muchmusic one night out of sheer stupidity and what do you know.... a Rass Kass video with them rapping about how hardcore they are. if a rappers underground, it's because he's not good enough (at whatever) to sell records.
would you not admit that raps main theme is being more hardcore then your counterpart? list me all the rappers you like and I'll find dozens of songs with lyrics that state exactly that. it's basic human nature, and it is in it's most basic form; some loud mouthed jackass using a mix of hyperbole and delusion to mark their territory, so to speak.
musically, I just don't see the appeal. i mean, if i bang a congo drum and clash a fork against a cheese grater a few times I could come up with the hook behind a common rap song. it seems like the message and lifestyle is the biggest appeal. that's why you have so many wiggers. they're insecure middle class sheep waiting to be herded by the latest trend; rap.
don't label rationilizing rap music to yourself and your insecurities as making "valid" points above naysayers, you're entitled to your opinion but don't act like people who chose not to like rap are close minded or racist because they don't listen to music that's on a simian level of conciousness (in my opinion).
p.s. Spyke, educate me, please. |
OK, I don't think you are close minded because you don't like rap, I think you are close minded because if someone else does you immediatly label them a "wigger", and "middle class sheep".
Guess what, fuck you. I love rap, and you insulted me 10 times over with your post. From what you said in that, you cannot be educated because your mind would not be able to comprehend the elements of hiphop.
Think of the elements of trance...the chord progression, the fading and backgrounds, all of that and much more.
Now take all of that and add poetry to it and you have hiphop. It's more complex than you could know.
And the underground of hiphop is excatly like the underground of Trance. I will quote Copywrite (aWHITE rapper(wow!))
"I don't wanna be mainstream, I wanna piss in it/"
hmmmmm...doesn't sound to me like he wants on Billboard....
You say what you see from the outside. Look at my last post and you'll see what I think about your veiws.
Shove your conga drums and forks up your ass and see how much noise they make. You have succeeded in insulting an entire culture in 4 simple paragraphs.
Go get some knowlage, then talk to me like a halfway intelligent person would.

btw im not a racist you will find its a very realistic view on the popular youth culture of now |
Even thought that statement is pretty harsh, I do agree with you.
Everybody wants to be a "badass thug" these days, like all the rap/hip hop stars act.

Ok, I think something needs to be explained to you. Rap/hip hop have no similar elements to trance when it comes to the music sound itself, except for the fact that they use basslines, and percussion instruments. The difference, is that trance, progressive, have a much more complex and thought-out arrangement. And as for poetry...LOL, don't even compare rap lyrics to poetry. Just cause those 'thugs to the core' come up with some cheap rhymes, it doesn't classify as poetry. Have you ever studied poetry in school? Rhyming doesn't make poetry, but the use of the words, the use of different imagery styles. Calling rap poetry is someone's cheap excuse at trying to justify it's importance (or lack thereof).
