The story behind the song is even better, if you know anything about Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel. Read this then listen to the lyrics of the song again.... sweet!

Steve Harley went on to be successful with his new band albeit with only a short career following, but the old members achieved nothing, they must have been pretty pissed that he succeeded when they walked out on him. This song has cult status in the UK and I should imagine Steve Harley could live off the royalties of this piece of pop genius alone.
