But just to put some things in perspective, when I lived in the UK and was on my "one man mission to promote canadian dj's" I often found myself bewildered with how little people knew about Max Graham, Mistress Barbara, Preach or even Richie Hawtin. 9/10 people had never heard of them, I'm talking about like hardcore punters here. People who live/ breathe/ eat/ sleep dance music.
These aformentioned dj's OFTEN ranked in the top 50 poll, forget the top fucking 6,000. So excuse me if I chuckle when I hear people say shit like "Luke Fair is massive in Europe", give me a break.
i am pretty sure the way it works with these global booking agents is that a club will call them up and say give us a DJ in this and this price range for this date that spins house. and that's all. if the dj fits the profile then he is in. (this is of course for the no names).

This sounds pretty logical as opposed to Jeff's "theory" about Miller's international popularity. Who are we kidding here?
Jeff do you have any proof to back this up, besides the bookings?

Even that model is changing in my opinion.
The Collective is pretty consolidated in the promoters they choose to work with in North America. In the big cities there's usually one big promoter who has preference after years of working with Balance/The Collective. These big promoters hold so much clout now that they're telling The Collective that they aren't wasting their time on the smaller roster guys who have no draw.
The Bullitt roster's even worse for this. When was the last time you saw any of their junior roster getting any gigs aside for maybe opening for Sleep Dish once in a while.

Toronto's electronic scene has moved on from where it was in the late 90s. Back then you could book a lesser known DJ from out of town and people would be genuinely interested in seeing them and make the effort to come out. Things are still like this in places like Eastern Europe, South America, Mexico etc.... That's why promoters there are booking lesser known DJs.
Toronto's now apathetic response to guests translates even more to the locals. Local support in Toronto is something that's earned through a long hard slog of playing everything you can and working very very hard to get noticed and stay noticed. It's really hard to grow local support in Toronto if you haven't taken the time to try and grow it here.

(and how can you say he played those cities more than Toronto? Fuck he played here every month last year)
It's kind of funny when people talk shit without having a clue...talking out of your ass may get you better results...so to answer your question...YES, Sean attracts bigger crowds in places like Monterray Mexico and LA than he does in Toronto. In fact, there are a few markets where Sean attracts bigger crowds than he does in Toronto now...and there are even more markets where Luke Fair draws far bigger numbers than he does in the market he calls home...but that also may have to do with where he is stuck playing.
Isn't it funny how the locals with the most support are the ones that are staying local? It speaks miles for the education that the so called leading clubs in this city are providing to the younger demographic becoming more intrigued by electronic music.
I rarely read these boards...but sometimes I find some things so humorous...this time I couldn't help but commenting. Someone with as little experience in this BUSINESS should keep the ASSuptions to a minimum.
Bravo to Jeff for actually having a little bit of knowledge about what is happening beyond our own city. Believe it or not, there are many other cities out there with crowds that either have far better knowledge of music or who are far more open minded and interested in hearing new up and coming artists as opposed to the same old big names that keep on coming here...and playing the same old venues.
