DAFT PUNK REVIEW
July 4, 2007 - Heineken Music Hall
HOLY FUCKING SHIT BALLS!! That was hands down the best performance I've ever seen in my entire life. I was excited for this event for awhile, but the entire time I was there I was completely in awe. 150% worth every penny I spent.
Cale and I met up with a friend I met on the Holland forums who sold us the tickets and we made our way on the metro to the Heineken Music Hall around quarter after 8. When we got off the subway (btw the subway stations here are insanely huge), we were surrounded by these huge buildings everywhere...Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam Arena, Media Mart (their version of Future Shop), a giant movie theatre, the Home Mall etc.
We walk into the HMH, it took us like 5 minutes to get through security - very organized - and into the hall. Wow...it's so huge! They had music playing before Daft Punk was on - they came on at 9pm. I was surprised as to how non-packed it was. Our friend Bas told us that the hall holds about 5000 people in here and that's all they will let in, they never over pack or else they can be shut down...big change from Toronto! It was awesome, the entire night we had room to dance and move around. I loved it. The one thing I did not like was the smoking. It really sucked how much smoke there was. It really makes you appreciate the no-smoking laws in Toronto, at least when you're a non smoker.
Daft Punk themselves exceeded all of my expectations - which were already high. The talent those guys have is amazing. The light show as well is insane.
They only played for about an hour and 15 minutes. Then they left the stage for a little while to get changed for their finale. I was in the crowd the entire time, but for the finale Cale and I went up to the stands so I could see the entire stage - as I'm short and everyone here is tall, I could see the stage, but never got a full view of it. Seeing the entire stage and the crowd was pretty awesome...I was amazed again.
Afterwards we got our coats and hung around for awhile - everything was very speedy, never too over crowded and pushy. They have another room where a DJ was spinning after Daft Punk, but we ended up just leaving and going back to our friend's house to have some drinks. Good times.
I want to go back
I uploaded pictures from the night to Facebook - but I didn't take too many pics, mostly videos. I'm currently trying to upload those, but it'll take awhile b/c there's lots and they're big.
