I'm not a big electro fan...but i'm sure as in any genre of music no one synth is "good for X"...ist all about how you go about using it. Maybe yes, a certain synth may give you that gritty blippy bass sound but hey its all about experimenting.

Well things are going more on topic.

I think for the purpose of this thread we are talking electro-house.
I find that NI Massive makes for a pretty good bassline.

one thing i'll say about NIs new vsts is that they are a step in the right direction.

massive does sound "fat" and perhaps many would compare it to analogue, but NI avoided designing the interface to mimic some classic piece of hardware.

vst programming tends to flow differently, and as a result they should be designed differently.

The FM8 also ditches the DX7 wannabe look, and in my opinion is much more usable...I'll admit that I prefer fm synthesis on a computer. As most FM hardware synths are not particularly intuitive anyways, and they are digital.

Yeah, massive is definately a good synth, but I do find it a bit hard to get anything OTHER than an electro sound out of it!

When I tried to get a 303 thing going, I couldn't get close, it still sounded sort of strained and filthy, like your average electro bass.... Is it the oscillators or am I doing something wrong? I tried the acid and daft filters, and lots of different oscillators, mainly the saw ones...?

I'm a bit of a newbie so I was looking for something with good electro presets. I think i'll give V-Station a try then.

I wish people would learn synthesis, then maybe they would realise that you dont need a half broken synthesizer from the 1980's to create the shitty "OMG ANALOG!!1!" sound they enjoy so much.
If only the software developers didn't include presets w/ their plugins.

yeah they all do, moreso than you. They all also use dysfunctional equipment now and again too, thats the reality of using the shit.

roughly half of my hardware does not have presets. How many of your vsts dont have presets?

One synth that doesn't get enough mention is rgc Audio - Triangle II you can get some good sounds out of it if you give it a chance and it's even free!

I didn't say that but judging from the youtube videos you posted I wouldn't be suprised.
90% of the synthesized "electro" sounds can quite easily be recreated with todays software technology.

I create the majority of presets and samples that are used in my work.
