i could shit out a penny if i tried!

what i'm trying to say is, if NO ONE tipped, well, tough shit for the server. and that's all there is to it. most jobs don't pay you EXTRA for a job well done. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO IT WELL! YES. YOU ARE. THERE. I SAID IT. AND I'M TYPING IN CAPS. ARE YOU AFRAID? HUH?! ARE YOU?!

no one tipped lol damn that must be a person who is disgruntled atwhat they do.Reality sets in when that would never happen but when these people espcially me (valet) count their tips at the end of the shift it all even out and some nights are good(mostly weekends) and some are slow. I wish I owned the valet company then I not worry about working off of tips.

I like these tip threads because I do this as my side job so it is interesting to see what TA do about this stuff. I have a full time job getting paid enough but the summer is where the GREEN is so I do it on the weekends. Extra money can't hurt

I always tip at places I plan on going to again. Even if the service is shitty, if I ever plan on going to that place ever again, I tip somewhere around 20%+

I can think of few restaurant experiences where I felt that the attendant did a bad job - there's usually many variables to consider but as long as I get drinks, food, & bill, I am generally pleased with the service. Was the water/waitress really busy? Were they handling like 7 tables at once because someone decided not to show up tonight? are they totally new at the job? All things to consider.

Some of you have this fucked up psycho-conditional streak where you believe that tipping should be something done as incentive, like you're fucking Pavlov ringing a bell. No, tipping is not a required thing, but do you honestly believe that after a waiter/waitress gets their $0.43 tip, they will think to themselves "gee, I should do a better job next time" or will they think to themselves "wow, what a righteous idiot fucking cunthead"?

Whatever though - I have always operated under the adage that the true measure of a person's character is how they treat those who are least important to them. Tipping shouldn't be some form of behavioural control.

Tipping 20% at a place like Perkins or Applebees on your meal is like an extra 2 dollars, so I do it regardless of the quality of service. I also demand extra ranch and salsa with the Chicken Tender Melt. If the extra salsa comes in a bigger bowl as it should, they are definitely getting an extra $.25.

play the sympathy card. What are they gonna do, a background check? From now on, you are Carlos Santiago, immigrant worker from Sal Paolo who's mother died of AIDS and father died in the holocaust. You've struggled all your life and your wife just left you for your sister. Then you tear up and sob:
"god, why did you kill mami and papi? TAKE ME TAKE ME!"

ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) -- Waitress Jessica Osborne is getting more than a good tip. She's getting $10,000 for her college education.

The 20-year-old waits tables at a Pizza Hut in northeast Indiana.

The money is from a mother and her two sons who are regular customers, but don't want to be named.

Osborne says she'd told the family how she had started college twice before, but had to quit because she didn't have the money. Osborne says the $10,000 gift made her cry so hard, she couldn't breathe. And she's having trouble getting people to believe her. Osborne says a co-worker thought she was lying.

A lot of waiters/waitresses in the United States make less than minimum wage and require tips to make money. I know most try to do a good job make people happy etc. And not tipping purposefully when the service is good is like asking for someone to spit in your food.

Money doesn't appear out of thin air, and the restaurant business is very competitive. The customer benefits the most from the tipping system. It allows direct control over the total price of the meal. Instead of paying the same amount of money for shit service and superb service, you can alter the amount of money you end up paying for the meal, depending on whether you thought the service was good or bad.

In many Manhattan restaurants they add to the total the 15% or 20% gratuity fee on purpose. I wonder if you don't pay that for bad service will they make you clean dishes. I never had a problem paying that but in a case where they do a bad job wtf it they force you to pay then I say something.
