Have you taken a skid control course?

Have you taken track training on how to handle a car at speed, maneuver a vehicle at speed (while surrounded in traffic, not in a straight line, as accidents rarely happen in open roads/straight lines)?

Is your car equipped with proper tires, suspension and power train to handle high speeds?

high speeds? Most people travel about 110-120 on the 401. I tend to be in the fast lane or middle lane and most of the time on the stretch between KW-London if i"m going about 130ish I'm merely keeping pace with the rest of traffic. How often do you do that stretch of highway?

I rarely ever go any faster than 140-150ish and I find myself doing that less and less these days. I would say I'm probably more closer to a steady 125-130 most of the time. I never said it was right and I'm not the kind of person who would bitch if I got pulled over and slammed with that huge fine for speeding on the 400 series highways.

But do you notice that good drivers aren't the ones who get caught? I never have been pulled over, even within a city but I never go any faster than 5-10 over, which again, is usually keeping pace with everyone else in a city.

Can you honestly say that you have proper control of your vehicle at 160 km/hr?

If you actually believe that then you shouldn't even be able to drive...I am scarred of sharing the road with people who share this train of thought.

I cannot think of one legit reason to drive 50 km/hr over the speed limit....if someone can give me one legit reason I would be shocked.

And people complain why their insurance is so much....it because idiots who share this stupid belief that speeding doesn't kill.

I have just as much control at 160km/h as I do at 100km/h...

I put a huge wing on the trunk of my car, so I actually have MORE control at 160km/h than I do at 100km/h.

The fact that you cannot even stop in the same distance going a 160 as you can at 100 is enough to say you don't have as much control.

ROFL!!!!!!

I'm not judging those of you who like to drive really fast but STOP RATIONALIZING IT!!! It's like a f'in drug addict/drunk who says he's experienced enough to 'HANDLE IT'. Just admit you don't care about the risks involved to yourselves and others on the road. Even if you are flawless, you HAVE TO ACCOUNT for others on the road who may err and then at 150k/h you will NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME to react.
Furthermore even if you argue that.... Safety features on cars are designed to withstand accidents at typical velocities. Point being made, you crash at that speed you are DEAD!!! and probably so are the 3 other drivers you hit when your car is bouncing around the highway because of the impact.

You are NOT TRAINED RACE CAR DRIVERS driving vehicles specifically designed for high speeds!!!

Saying you 'have control' 50K/h over the limit on a road DESIGNED for 50k/h less in VERY IGNORANT!!!

Even professional drivers would not drive a stock car that much over the limit especially on the highway because they have much more respect for the consequences.

Speed all you want, wherever you want, just please don't tell me that you are not endangering yourself or others (And don't justify it by saying immigrants are worse drivers, because that is a silly argument). Many people are bad drivers, but a dozen fender benders from hacks who can't merge right is better than a 3 car collision with multiple fatalaties anyday.

/end vent

I'm curious how many people drive in the right lane at 100kmph on the 401 just like you're "supposed" to? I agree that 150-160 is excessive especially in the GTA on the 401, QEW, expressways, but the 401 (especially on stretches between KW-London and most DEFINITELY London-Windsor) could be extended to 110 or 120.

The relatively few people who kick it at 100 (they are usually old or timid drivers) are being totally blown away by everyone else. I do the drive between KW-London almost on a weekly basis and I make it in an hour or less when the roads are clear every time. In the winter or rain I adjust accordingly like every good driver but on those stretches of highway, I do not feel bad in the slighest when I'm travelling at 120-130kmph. Apparently the OPP don't care either because they never pull me over for it.

400 to Toronto, or on the 404/DVP... on avg 120-130 km/h most all the time... and thats keeping up with traffic pretty much. Tend to go fastest speed I can while behind another car (ie. not leading the pack)

exactly...for people who are always commuting on the 401, 120ish is merely keeping pace and that's why people very rarely ever get pulled over for maintaining that speed. Now, if people want to drive any faster than that, which many of us do at times, then we should be prepared to pay the consequences (be it an accident, fines, demerit points, etc).

That said, there are some HORRIBLE drivers out there whip in and out of traffic on severely congested highways that make me just shake my head.
