but if the customers knowledge of food only extends into chicken fingers and french fries, and the chef is preparing a rare fish only found in the seas off the coast of japan then can you really take the customer seriously? anyone is ALLOWED to judge, but personally i only accept judgements from those equally qualified.

Shame / Disagreement

i've always been a fan of BT, but its like listening to a symphany really, pleasing to hear in the background, but as probably mention earlier, his drum work needs a bit of a rather helping hand...YAY FOR 808 Loops

If you find it compelling, then your music would definitely contain a hook of some kind. Whatever you find compelling about the track: that's probably the hook! Or one of them, as the case may be.

If you find it boring, then why are you listening to it anyway?

Now, in keeping with your whole idea of subjectiveness, I find BT's dance music boring, by and large. A large majority of it lacks something I find to be a compelling hook, by what I've laid out here as a hook. I don't see how you can take issue with such a critique on anything more than the basis of opinion, and if you care all that much about subjectiveness, then I don't think you really have no basis whatsoever to try to discount what I've said here.

What i had a problem with was the idea that the presence of a (melodic) hook (a hook in the traditional sense), as an objective feature, is what determines whether a piece of music can be compelling to anyone. I can't stand that type of attitude where people present their taste and opinions as if they were facts, and now even great laws™.

The hook as you defined it is a completely different story and i can't disagree with any of what you said. I'm sure we find different things to be compelling, and as irrelevant as that may be, that's a bit of the point.

I certainly did read the whole article but I suppose I didn't get my point across. While well-produced music doesn't necessarily mean good music in the case of TBU in my opinion, it is good music. That's all. I just happen to disagree because I like BT's music in addition to respecting his level of expertise. The first track on TBU I thought was great even though it was written entirely in CSound.

So does Bush when he makes his speeches but we laugh at his ignorance too.

You both have a lot in common; stroking your own ego and basking in your own self-righteousness

I love threads that revolve around Ishkur. So much hate.

Agree or disagree, whether you think he's a complete cunt or not, it's entertainment.
