That's technically true (more or less), but also very misleading. In 2006 we exported about $230 billion worth to the U.S. and imported just over $300 billion, so the dollar amounts are not far off. However - and you'll have to forgive me for quoting ballpark figures from memory because I can't seem to find the exact statistic I'm looking for - over 60% of Canada's imports come from the USA, whereas not much more than 30% of the USA's imports come from Canada.

That actually should make perfect sense given the fact that we import about the same as we export, dollar for dollar; the U.S. trades on a much larger scale than Canada so the same dollar amount will account for a higher portion of our imports than theirs.

We are, however, a net exporter of oil and petro products, which seems to be very important to the Americans right about now.

Yeah, unfortunately, Canada doesn't have Mexico sitting above it, otherwise I'm sure our import numbers would look a bit different too.

I just laughed at emonster4life because that's such typical high-nosed American attitude of "oh, Canada, where would you be without America?", and I hate it cause the two counties are interdependent, and not just Canada leeching off of USA. If anything, USA is exploiting Canada's exports because they have the advantage of knowing we have no other direct border country with who we could trade with. I'm sure Canada's logging contracts with USA would look hella different if we had another huge country bordering us.
