They don't make a profit because the operating costs are through the roof. If they could get rid of the unions and the thousands of useless employees, a private company could probably shave 75% off those costs.

Wtf... no offense, but aside from the total disregard for basic economics, did you actually read this before posting? Yeah, you can't have two systems when the system is run by the government (duh). When it isn't government-run, you CAN have competition.
