I have a couple of black coworkers that give me shit and try to get me to say it. I tell them to fuck off. I know they would just laugh but I really dont want to say shit like that out of respect. I sure as hell dont want to get used to saying it either. One of them is from louisiana and his granddad has scars on his back from that era. No fuckin way am I going to trivialize that. My wit is better than resorting to a slavery stab.

Well, no, but it is common among racists to focus on the faults of other races without giving any acknowledgement of the similar faults of their own race. If you act like racists typically do, it is a bit disingenuous to act surprised when people think of you as one.

It is perfectly true that black people in the U.S. commit a disproportionate number of crimes, but simply making that observation and leaving it at that will often, rightly or wrongly, get you tagged as a racist.
