I really like "Phantom Part I" but "D.A.N.C.E." and "We Are Your Friends" got old very quickly. |
I never really liked D.A.N.C.E. from the beginning. I heard it for the first time and I thought it was a joke. Then I dug deeper and found that they were actually a new duo from France (this was before the album was released), and a friend of mine sent me Phantom Pt. 1 and I instantly fell in love with it. It sounded like an unreleased Daft Punk record. When the album finally came out though, DVNO was a killer.
Then as I looked for more stuff by Justice, I came across Ed Banger Records, with Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo, etc, and then eventually gained exposure to Simian Mobile Disco and whatnot.
Although Justice provided some exposure and some direction for my sets, the fact is that they are overrated. A few of my friends who don't even like electronic music have fallen in love with D.A.N.C.E. and Waters of Nazareth and so forth ... I just hope Daft Punk don't turn into sellouts and try to do too much. It's best that they focus on what they're good at.
As long as none of the Justice tracks are remixed, like Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, where I'm asked to play Kanye West - Stronger instead of the original, I'll be fine.
