Everyone does.

The longer you remain single the easier it is to throw yourself at a job and generally the "better" you do.

One issue seems to be that after having a first child values and goals change significantly. That means that a significant amount of people no longer feel the drive to mark the progress of thier lives by what thier salery is.

Going to work is equally boring, possibly worse, and you spend most of your life doing it.

Sure there are interesting things to do, but very few of them pay anyting, and when they do there is nasty competition and low wages, go go labour markets.
