No kidding, but not the point.

part time vegetarian/vegan = vegetarian/vegan when sleeping

what a joke!

like all things what I'm observing is that there are various grades of vegetarian (those who do it for health reasons, those who are anti-animal cruelty, those who are in with the latest fad, those who eat fish and/or eggs, those who don't), and then there's vegan.

I'm glad to say that the folks that I have met so far are open and have been clear that "it's your body, do with it what you will" and haven't tried to force their beliefs down anybody's throat. If I met one of *those* people well some throat-punches would be in order.

Well, you said that people were lying when they said they could survive on a vegan diet. But that isn't necessarily a lie, because people can survive on a vegan diet, as long as they use supplements.

I realize that. However, to get the majority who eat meat to stop will be quite the accomplishment.

Yep. That's why I'm hoping that it will be possible to develop tasty vat-grown meat. Then I could be an omnivore without having to slaughter animals or pay people to do it for me.

I get accused of being a vegetarian all of the time because I often order vegetarian dishes. The moment you don't eat meat with a meal, people are quick to the "hippy" bullshit and it's almost as fucking stupid as the ones who think they are seriously making a difference in the world by not eating animals.

I disagree with the torture of animals for the exact same reasons I disagree with the torture of humans, generally. On that note, if somebody offered me human, I'd probably try it. Dead matter is dead matter - there's really no suffering once it's been cooked, and refraining from eating it won't really stop the whole of consumers from perpetuating the process. It seems to me that life, itself, is just a cycle of consumption.

That said, I make it a rule for myself to not support the killing of more than one animal each day for my consumption needs, but I also generally eat once per day and that rarely contains meat as well. I don't really do it for health reasons. I wasn't raised that way. It's not part of my religion or something like that. I don't become sick when I eat [most] meat. I just do not feel as though I need it. The 3 square meals a day principle seems quite disingenuous to my occurring apetite - that is to say, I eat whenver I am hungry and that's basically it. Seems wrong to eat meat all of the time when there are plenty of alternatives - tofu, soy products, vegetables, protein supplements [not that I use those], and that you'd have to lead and awfully active lifestyle as well as regular, strenuous exercise to warrant the constant intake of calories and daily protein intake.

Maybe I am just an irrational skeptic, but it seems to me that the ones pushing people to eat, eat, eat are the ones with the most to gain from it. And that the processing of livestock for consumption is just as generally unnecessary, yet quite beneficial to those controlling the mass disregard for animals as, well, frankly, just as deserving of life as human beings.

But in the end, there is no morality to flesh, so eat up. You'll rot and we'll just consume you anyways, so might as well immerse yourself in life's simple little participations.

I never said I didn't eat meat.

And yeah, there's loads of inconsistencies. But not everything is black/white, good/bad, etc...

If more people severely limited their consumption of meat as well as food in general, there would be far less of a demand for the problems in our world we seem to be great at perpetuating. I'm not syaing they would go away or something ridiculous like that - I'm just saying that what isn't necessary in regards to the destruction of life will catch up to us in the worst way possible.

Although it is quite ironic that obesity, diabetes and various other health issues are in fact symptoms of a sort of "healthy" economic and consumerist affluence.
