I think profile was the word I was looking for instead of format... If it is true than I think stories like this will be more common place..
Anneka notes that, although both Netflix and Best Buy threw logs on HD DVD's funeral pyre today, things are not all going Blu-ray's way. A Connecticut man is suing Samsung, the maker that brought the first Blu-ray players to market, over its "defective" BD-P1200 player. The lawsuit seeks class-action status. The problem is that the Samsung BD-P1200 is a "Profile 1.0" player that can't play some Blu-ray discs and Samsung has no intention (or ability) to upgrade these players via firmware.
Quoting Ars: "The meager requirements of the 1.0 profile mean that Blu-ray players which fail to implement the optional features won't be able to take advantage of picture-in-picture, which requires secondary decoders. 1.0 players are also unable to store local content, lacking the 256MB of storage mandated by the 1.1 profile. Profile 1.1 discs should still play on 1.0 players, however, but the extra features will not work."

I've got a PS3 but I never buy blurays, why spend double when you can easily get cheapo DVDs?
On a 32 incher DVD looks fine.
Half the time I'm considering just watching a stream on the net lol.

I don't want to say that people who bought that player deserved it, but samsung has always made crappy products (at least those with their name on them). they shouldn't be shocked.

Since when?
Samsung displays and TV's are made of win.
Can't speak to much else of theirs I've had, but I've scarcely found people disappointed with their Samsung displays.

they're among the most unreliable sets on the market (hitachi, phillips, and mitsubishi are up there, as well). pay the extra 1-200 bucks and get a sony, panasonic, or pioneer. you get what you pay for, especially with tvs.

Can you find me objective statistics to back up this claim? I have never met a single person who has been unhappy with their Samsung LCD TV - nor do I know anyone who has had an issue with them.
They've generally been highly recommended on internet forums I frequent and other commerce sites where I've looked for reviews.
I have spent a lot, and I mean a lot of time trying to figure out which LCD was going to be the route to go for us, and honestly I've seen pretty much nothing to discourage me from seriously considering a couple of the Samsung sets - so if you've got loads of evidence to the contrary, I'd love to hear it before spending my money.
