My definition

Deep House = emotional soulful lower bpm house (most of the time < 122)

Tech-House = for some reason most of the time I associate tech-house to boring and unimaginative looped stuff < 130bpm, that's neither house or techno and often have predictable melodies and progression. Ok that's a super poor definition.

AMEN!"One Starry Night" is a very sweet record by the way!

It seems that people have massive problems understanding what is "deep house" and what is "tech house". I thought sites like "Beatport" was to blame so i went to their site and out of curiosity i chose the genre "Tech-House" to see what they have in there. I was expecting some huge mislabels like click'n' glitch minimal techno or electro-house labeled as tech-house, but surprisingly enough, from the samples they seemed to be accurate enough! They had Tim Weeks new "Fashionably Late e.p." (not familiar with the artist but e.p. sounded interesting...classic tech-house stuff), some other guy named Rene Breitbarth with another E.P. on Dessous (neither familiar with this guy as well, it seems that i have missed some stuff lol) the odd e.p. by Jeff Bennett (cudos to this guy, he never quits!)an e.p. by Petter Grummich (i thing i had a track by him) Ofcourse from the six new releases, two of them were probably more clicky, glitchy minimal techno stuff rather then "tech-house" in the traditional sense (or maybe "neo-tech-house" lol?). I was also surprised, that after a few years of having a "tech house" break, that the sub-genre hasn't changed that much (or actually, hasn't changed at all)! So, if for the most part everything is the same, why people still don't understand what the heck "Tech-House" is!?

haha yeah there are still classic tech house sounds out there even on beatport

rene breitbarth - i own a ton of his stuff - a lot is really good, some is just fucking weird. 'bob ross' is hilarious but kind of disappointing.

maybe one of my favorites from rene is "sloth" a nice quirky triplet track that lives up perfectly to its name.

PETRAN def check out Breitbarth's older stuff, he has more chill dubby stuff that is really cool, mainly on Dessous.

I'm surprised this thread is still alive. But mad props to PETRAN for laying out some massive music knowledge in this area. I'm going to have a fun time checking out all these recommendations.

I kinda agree with you here. I haven't listened to much tech house (and don't know much about history of it), but fusion of techno and house happened long before tech house phenomenon. Detroit house (combination of Detroit techno futurism and Chicago house soulfulness) started to appear around 1987, mainly on Master Reese's label KMS. He (and his projects - Inner City, Reese & Santonio and E-Dancer) was also the most prominent pusher of that sound in the 80's (and 90's).

Anything you can find by Halo usually wins deep house. Love shit from him.

Also Steve Ferrand and, to a lesser extent, Sebastian Davidson.
