No, it wouldn't. You just don't have anything intelligent to say, and that is what perpetuates this cycle week-in, and week-out in this forum - and why it is one of the most useless subforums on TA.

At this point it is "DJM-800s are better" (with little to no reasons as to why) vs. "Xones are better" (with all the reasons explained and laid out ready to be talked about)

Or are we just supposed to not discuss anything ever?

Having played on both I prefer the Xone by miles... it's soooooo smooth and phat sounding, such a pleasure to mix on.

That having been said, I have to say that the 800 is by no means a bad mixer. Being a feedback looping EFX-1000 whore, I must concede that the send/return scheme on the 800 is a shitload easier to use (although not necessarily better, since the Xone is capable of effecting multiple channels at once, unlike on the 800). But I'd still take a Xone 92 any day of the week.

Wasn't this topic about DJM700 vs the DJM800?

Let's get back on topic.

Honestly this was a pretty fucking vague topic to begin with. Seeing as the original post consisted only of

quote:
GO!!!

and nothing else, what sort of conclusions are we supposed to draw? From what I understand, a DJM700 is just a stripped down version of a DJM800, and it has no advantage over its sibling outside of a cheaper price (if I'm wrong about this, by all means correct me).

It's 1100$

If you had 1100$ to spend on a mixer there are way too many better options.

You can get a Rane MP-2016A for less, and they sound better.

I dunno dude, it seems to me that most of the "reasons" supporting xone mixers were just pioneer bashing, ie: "its over marketed," "all the top trance dj's use it so it must suck," and finally "it has AN ANNOYING FLANGER ZOMG!"

The difference in sound quality isn't that huge, and some people prefer the curves on the 800 over the 92. Plus having the effects on the same box can be convenient, and saves money over buying an additional efx 1000. I think buying a mixer is a very subjective decision, and should be about personal feel more than anything else. Just because such and such famous DJ uses one or the other should be irrelevant.

I have nothing against Pioneer stuff. The CDJ line is pretty much unmatched in its category, the EFX-1000 is an amazing piece of kit that is an inseperable part of my sets, and the DJM-800 is indeed a fine mixer (though the DJM-500/600 are very much overrated, imo). Anyone bashing a DJM-800 for the reasons you named is just as ignorant as its overzealous fanboys.

Yes, choosing a mixer is indeed subjective, and many of the finer details in the "Xone vs 800" debate are subjective as well (things such as fader/pot curves, analogue vs digital sound, the necessity of effects, etc). But I think the reason that most people are so feverous about Xones is the fact that if you take the effects away from the 800 then there's really nothing special about it, save for it's good sound.

Those reasons are not my issues with it, but the fact that people buy into those as selling points is what puts most of us off. The fact that trance DJs use it is less of a slight than the fact that people use that to argue that it is superior. The fact that it has a flanger doesn't bother me at all, it's the truth that it is mostly over-used, and should NOT be considered a "plus" unless you like cheap effects.

Of course its subjective, but we're discussing each person's subjective opinions here not universal fact. RJT may present his posts in ways that lead some to think he believes his opinion to be absolute truth, but its really just his opinion. It remains that people often like one or the other for similar reasons, and it was pointed out that people who are very conscious about really mixing music and fine blending generally do NOT prefer the 800.

You can mix a great set on almost any of these mixers, but when it comes down to preference, the reasons why certain people choose one over the other are very telling and reflective of who they are as DJs.
