Scotty Bateman joins the interview mainroom on Aug 16th, Massive good-times ahead!
After attending an underground dance party in 1996 Scott Bateman's attraction to electronic dance music was instant and the quick purchase of a pair of decks became an immediate decision.
In the early days Scott’s focus was on all things techno and tech house but a move to Sydney in 1999 drew Scott’s attention to an exploding trance scene which was producing some amazing parties & brilliant music. With techno difficult to find in record stores in Sydney at that time and luxuries like online record shopping non-existent, he soon found himself playing less techno and started his move to trance.
It was in 2000 that Scott and a friend began running their own warehouse parties under the banner ‘Unity Productions’. The events were a great success which sadly came to an end after 9/11 with the cost of public liability insurance becoming so expensive that it could not go on. Much of what was learned was applied to Scott’s next endeavour – “Obsession @ Room 680”, a night run with Steve Strangis and a group of mates that to this day is regarded by many as one of the best trance and progressive nights to feature in Melbourne.
Over the past 11 years Djing Scott has cemented himself as a favourite in the Melbourne trance scene. His unique sound and approach to what he does has seen him invited to play some of Australia's biggest and best festivals and club nights and supported the world's premier international artists at events including Summerdayze, God's Kitchen, Gatecrasher, Ultraworld, Pharmacy, Obsession, Belfast and now, proudly boasts and Interview residency.
With a recent move into production Scott has already achieved great success with his collaboration with Steve May – 'Change here for Epping' being released on UK record label '5am Vibe' garnering great support from some of the biggest international DJ’s on the circuit.
Scott's insistence on doing something different means unique and intelligent set's built on progression, contrast and variety, each track carefully selected for not only how it sounds on it’s own but also how it works as part of the whole.
Combining his roots in techno with his love of trance Scott is an artist that refuses to be pigeonholed in to one genre, incorporating everything from minimal and electro through to progressive, techno and trance in order to ensure crowds are made to move and left wanting more!
