It's honestly depressing to see this city's techno/tech-house nightlife hitting rock bottom... If you guys haven't read Steve Lalla's interview with Deadbeat from a few weeks back, I suggest you all do so. Scott Monteith aka Deadbeat Interview

Excerpt taken from the article:

"Not to knock Montreal in any way," Monteith continues, "but it became very difficult and frustrating for me at some point to write music and not have a consistent place you could go out and hear it. Some people seem to attribute the difficulty of running a regular techno or forward-thinking house night in Montreal to a general lack of interest, but I think that's straight-up bullshit. The ever-increasing numbers one sees in attendance at the Piknic, Mutek and Fricoti demonstrates that pretty clearly.

"Generally, if a few more club owners cared just a little bit more about the sound, and a few more promoters paid just a little bit more attention to what's going on abroad and in their own backyard, shit would be rocking. I guess the short answer to this question is that community breeds creative inspiration."

For me that's explaining the problem the other way around.

If all tech djs that play Minus organize themselves to bring Minus, it would happen. You're the ones with the crowds to make this event happen. You need promoters only to take them by the hand and bring them, but it's YOUR crowd. Promoters are a part of your tools. You are in the best position to profit from such an event in all aspects !!!

I wish techno djs would call me to ask me to help them out with their projects... not call me for bookings, i still book them, but it's not my wish... especially ostrich with all his terrific ideas and original enterprises...

That's what mini, franco fabi, king louis, anton and few others are doing... and its working just fine... they've builded their teams for their events. Now they can afford to sollicitate investors, club owners to join in their projects, locally and abroad. Their business is well builded, to that extent that they manage venues.

Take action. I'm always ready to help.

(lol Don't worry hitler also listens to electro house lol)

people should watch where they put their money when it involves dance music in Montreal. Sometimes you are better off just putting it in your mouth and eating it.

lot of people out there looking to take advantage of other people. (p.e./f.d./m.j.p.r./m.a./etc..)-

well guys......i dont know how it is in montreal that well. But I know that in Toronto the Mnus show did not happen because mr hawtpants
just wanted to much money for this showcase, I spend alot of money on bookings but when a show costs so much and is not worth the risk it just cant work. A promoter should make money of an event so he can produce more not spend his whole life making money for other artists
and just doing parties for the hell of it.

Even in Toronto (we have quite alot of techno events) but a mnus showcase just wont work. Because at max we would maybe get 700 people out for a show that costs 25 000 just for the booking.

So guys I dont think you have it too bad in Montreal. Piknic alone is very special event that hardly any other city has something like that.

good chuck of change!

I dont know how single bookings costs, but looking at it its ~5k per DJ.

I think you can get more than 700 people if you get a large enough room. I mean, Villalobos/Dandy Jack had 1500 people (doing a ballpark), why cant a M_NUS showcase not have 1500...

Since there is no canadian date, people would travel to see this. I'd pay $50 for such a show, no problem (Granted its more than 5 hours )

Please anyone correct if I'm wrong, but there were not 1500 persons at Nuit Electronik. The legal capacity of Metropolis is about 1200, and it wasn't packed, so I'm guessing less than 1200.

Anyways, you make good points. I too would be willing to pay 50$ for a 6+ hour Contakt showcase.

But, Montreal is a very small market, not sure what the turnout would be. And yes, some out-of-towners might come, but this is not Europe, travel distances are much larger.

I was only ball parking it. The placed was rammed.

Another example was sasha n digweed Tribe party...that had a huge turnout from people outside montreal!
