Srsly. grow some balls. stop being such 905'ers/ out of towners and embrace the diverse city that u all live in.

If u're street smart, nothing should happen to you during caribana or anywhere for that matter. However, if you get robbed or jumped during caribana, you're the type of individual that's bound to get robbed or jumped anywhere.

Ha, exactly. Being street smart, as previously mentioned, just means being cautious about what's going on, (which you should be everyday regardless of where you are). It doesn't mean you have to go 'hide' in another part of the city for fear of being killed. You could easily say " Shit, a bunch of terrorists( because if all black people are scary killers then you must think anyone that is brown must be a terrorist) are getting on this plane with me, I'm going to go and get on that other plane that doesn't seem so dangerous ". Yes, that is how stupid you all sound.

Remember kids friends dont let friends go to Caribana.

Here is an idea,I say we take this crap back to Buffalo or Detroit where it really belongs, thing about it for a sec,You get more Americans coming over for this then Canadians so I say we let them have this damn festival and leave Toronto alone.Yeah I know Toronto makes money from this etc etc but Iam sure we can make that money elsewhere.

Cheers.

People from all over the world come out to Caribana, not just people from the States. This is an international event, and now goes far beyond one culture.

...
I think the joke has been lost on most people here. Yes, Caribana is an amazing event, with great music, cheerful people, and amazing food. It is a time people can be proud of their culture, and others can be proud that they are willing to embrace a new culture.

Caribana does have its issues, as any other large event will. The problem is that with so much coverage, things get blown out of proportion. People seem, to think there is a lot of violence. Remember that over a million plus people cram into the city to party, which will invariably lead to some trouble. But, with that said, what are the chances of you being involved in an incident? Very low. Think about how long the route is, how many different areas in the city are busy celebrating, how many clubs are open. You are not going to be 'in the line of fire'. Bad guys are not hiding at every turn.

If we held the clubbing district, or other major events to the same standard some here are applying to Caribana, then most of those other events would not take place.

Yes, 3 dead last year. How many people are shot dead, stabbed, beat on and die on any random given week/week-end here in Toronto? quite a bit, and most of it you don't hear about because either a) you choose not to or b) Caribana is very publicized so you read about it or hear about it everywhere . Just because it happens to be a so called " black cultured event" and fights break out you think it's the most dangerous spot to be omg black people run!!!111oneoneoneone. Get over yourself, no one is telling to GO, we're simply telling you that your reasons are stupid.

Does anyone have actual statistics on the crime.

Comparing it to Notting Hill Carnival, also caribean, also 1,000,000+ street party/parade this time with drinking in the streets.

For 2007
"By Sunday afternoon 116 people had been arrested, including three for attempted murder after a man was stabbed on Saturday night in Ladbroke Grove, and 152 crimes had been reported, compared with 161 last year. " Two teenagers were shot after/outside of the festival, a 17 year old and a 14 year old.

In total theyve had 5 deaths since 1965.

I havent been to Caribana but when i went to Notting Hill Carnival it felt relativly safe when i was there, do we just not have as many police?

Million people, shits gonna happen

Since I'm not going away for the weekend this year, I'm really looking forward to Caribana's main event tomorrow. I've always had a blast each year I've attended.
