It has been my firm belief that religion should only be discussed in the following circumstances:

a) among people of the same faith
b) to people who are not set in their beliefs and open-minded to a new faith
c) among people who enjoy arguing

If you firmly do not believe in anything, people who do believe in something will seem foolish (especially those who are passionate about their faith).

Religion is usually so deeply embedded in one's being that nothing else makes sense. You believe what you believe. I have a very hard time wrapping my head around the idea of "converting" (unless someone has a life altering experience or something).

Anyway, I find that religion is personal and private and preaching around about it is f*cking BS.

I think ~C~ refers to some (if not most) debaters in this thread

Not really. Personally, I've got lots of religious friends that I consider to be quite intelligent. As a matter of fact, one of my favourite authors is a hardcore Christian... I just happen to think his genius goes way beyond religion.

Lira, do you know John Lennon? Lennon once said `I'm an artist. You
give me a fuckin' tuba and I'll get you something out of it'. The point with John Lennon is a man can look at anything and make
something out of it. For instance,I look at you and I think what can
I use you for?

And how is that related to atheism, exactly?

(Edit: By the way, did you know Yoko Ono got John Lennon a Chinese ~companion~, namely May Fung Yee Pang? If that's what you get for playing a tuba, then I should have kept playing it back in high school )

It means that you should wake up every morning and say "When In rome..." five times in front of the mirror.

Whether or not the world would be better off had religion never existed (which is the only way a world without religion could exist, since once it developes it's omnipresent) is imposible for us to judge. Everything related to the human world is either a product of religion or has been shaped by religion. Without taking a position on the validity of any religion, any person with even a passing knowledge of anthropology and history must agree that without religion our world would be so different it would be unrecognisable.
