The reason being, is that I saw Richie at Guv a few years ago, and listened to some sets prior and I really wasn't feeling it. I realize my musical tastes have evolved quite a bit, so I figure I might as well re-acquaint myself with something above par.
Sure... my point was that if you're like "yo, give me his best set" you're already on the wrong path to understanding him.
I find Richie's sets now don't translate well to a recording. Examples being DEMF07 and his Minus party in Windsor.

I completely agree. It has to be heard live.

Killer oldschool richie set, he plays hard for a good chunk of it, then goes into killer-headfuck minimal land for an hour or so, then back to more bangy-territory to end it off. The more minimal part is my favorite part of the set, and one of my all-around favorite minimal sets.
I haven't seen him live but I've heard tons of sets, compilations etc by him and I wouldn't even put him in a category where I'd say he's number technically amazing even though I don't like his style like I would with Zabiela, Sasha etc.
If there's one guy who I'd give my vote to under your discription it's Hernan Catteneo. But hey, it's just my opinion.

I'd say that's probably required to really understand what Richie is capable of!

Hmm, then I guess I need it broken down more clearly.
Is it the fact that he's on the cusp of the evolution of electronic music?
Is it his consistency (of being good) throughout time?
Or are the set recordings not doing his skills justice, as pointed out in the responses prior to this one?
If I can't make a judgment based on his sets/releases...then what is suggested that I base it on?
(These are not smart ass questions, they are legitimate talking points/queries)
[Edit: Thanks to those that posted sets so I can get a feel for it]
