Nope it's not, given the kind of music they play.
When you play progressive house none of which has any melody, and all of which is pretty similar, it's relatively easy to mix -- much easier than, say, uplifting Trance.

These threads are always entertaining. Obviously it depends on personal taste. They are more then a few DJ's that might seem overrated, because of their lack of creativity during their livesets that are shared throughout the MP3 community. Yet the reality of it is that we only know what we've actually heard, and most would be recorded live sets. I think everyone can agree that when we are there live, the musik always sounds better. It moves us much more when the musik goes through a beautiful sound system, with the atmosphere of the party, club, and other people around us. There is no way to duplicate the reaction between the DJ and the Fans & Freaks, on a pre-recored live set. What makes a good DJ to me, is to hear unknown tracks, that sometimes take months to find.

I will say this, some of the obvious choices for overrated DJ's have already been named. There are definitely more overrated DJ's than there are underrated DJ's. Some of my underrated DJ's would be Piet Bervoets(Rank1), DJ Taucher & most of the Bonzai DJ's(Fire, M.I.K.E., Yves, Chris Raven, Ghost, etc...)

what kinda of bullshit is that? mixing prog house is no easier then trance...in fact its harder since the beats vary so much and dont have that steady kick snare pattern of trance tunes. Digweed is a fucking pro...i dont think its right to knock on his talent.

I think tiesto is way overrated as a dj. As far as i can tell he only gets to dj becuase hes such an amazing producer. His track selection is fairly decent but his djing skills arnt quite there. However most of us cant slam these guys because we cant mix at all

I dont care bout DJ's anyways, I just want to hear some nice tunes. Or a nice well crafted set of original music like PVD's Out There and Back or some non-stop trance artist albums like Space Cat - Beam Me Up...

I totally agree with you! YDR is way underrated! I saw him live dozens of time when he was resident at cherry moon and he did the best transitions I ever heard. When he mix it's like he tell us a story. You could never say when he is mixing two tracks cause the transition is so smooth. I don't know why he sometimes fuck up on some livesets I heard from him. He also uses some tricks that you'll never heard with other dj's. Dj Ghost is not a trance dj but he has mad skills, I never hear a trainwreck from him

I forgot to mention that Digweed and Sasha are too overrated for me (Digweed n°1 dj last year! He is so boring)

I think people are getting carried away calling everyone shit.

You have to ask yourself:

a) How is that DJ rated by the majority of the trance community?

b) Is that rating accurate?

Darude is not over-rated because noone rates him highly in the first place.

I would nominate Tiesto. He is rated as the best in the world by many, and I think he does not stand out from the pack at all. He is playing where I live this weekend for 3 hours, but I'm tempted to miss it as I'm saving for a holiday.

I've never seen Yves Deruyter, but he played where I live a few weeks ago (I couldn't afford to go), and a lot of people thought his mixing was shit. His productions are mint, but he seems to get quite a bit of flak for his mixing. I'll have to see him myself some time before I make my own judgement.

Cool no real DJs post here aparently

Aparrently some of the poeple here are pure raver fans who don't really know what are real mixing skillz...i guess if u guys go by just what u think u are hearing then i can't stil contradict you by saying what about thew DJ tiesto set on dance valley...he was in his home country and he delivered hard... paul van dyk..u wanna hear him live mixing just go the the live senction on trance addict and u will download a super sweet set by him, he is an awsome Dj what some of u are failiong to realaize is that there are diferent stiles of mixing, in eigther case it depends on the chopices they have fro the music...like I'm too much of a fan of the live music digweed plays but his skills for mixing 2 songs for a while before switching to the next one are awsome...Dj tiesto sets are awsome they always get the crowd going...his mixies are much more cut breaking in between songs because he does a good job at swtiching the highs in the mixer from one to to the other which is not easy at all...I know thi because i'm a DJ myself i've -played in rave in and clubs in seatle oullman Washington, Spokane and in Tucson, and what i write was a comon description of what theses big name Djs are like, they are all awsome, wheather u liek them or not...ifu start bringin they are too progressive, then u are oviouly being bias because u don't like progressive too much...IF there is one big name i think is a little overrated then i guess is tall paul as i like his production mixes but but they are the ver very best and his live sets are not in good choice of songs constatly so i think he is a really good Dj but not as good as he should be

PS. by the way i'm kinda high and drunk so sorry about the spelling
