the device is a cdma/quad band gsm device, so yes you can travel with it internationaly.

telus will be the only carrier with this device in canada. verizon in the states.

will be available very soon, but at a hefty price.

coolio!
don't get the "cdma/quad band gsm device" part though - so it's CDMA in Canada, but being a GSM device, you can travel with it... so you can still put SIM cards in it and use it in London, UK, for example?

there are apparently 2 models, a CDMA+GSM version and a GSM version.

The Blackberry Storm 9500 will be sold through Vodafone networks and will be free on monthly plans of 35 GBP and up with an 18-month contract.

The Blackberry Storm 9530 is the variant of the handset that will be sold in North America. Along with the quad-band GSM and 2100Mhz UMTS support that the 9500 model has, it will also offer CDMA2000 1xEV-DO support.

It's a BB "World Phone". They already have a BB (8830) with it available on TELUS/Bell Mobility.

Uses CDMA in North America, but comes with a SIM Card for GSM usage for the rest of the world. They are locked to not work on domestic GSM providers (either via frequency or via network locking).

Yes the GSM portion of the storm will be unlocked, the world edition 8830 Telus has right now is not locked either its just Dual Band GSM works in Europe/Asia only, the Storm is a true Iphone killer and multiple radios in it CDMA/GSM closest to a true world phone in the market available you can get.

Funkycrew, The CDMA portion will works while in the Americas, however the GSM portion will pick up while in Europe and Rest of Asia, but yes you can pop in a sim while travelling abroad with a different carrier

Here's a nice lil' linky from my fav site - click me!

I'm not sold just yet...sexy, yes, but I'm thinking Bold at this point. My contract has four months left on it before I escape Verizon (CDMA, and the only Storm svc provider in the states) for AT&T (all the cool phones, and the only iPhone svc provider in the states -- they're getting the Bold very soon as well).

DigitalMP....
Verizon in the US is going HSPA/3G and eventually with migrate to 4G/LTE which is the evolution path of GSM/2G , viceversa that is happening here right now in canada will be completed by beginning of 2010, so eventually even AT&T will move to HSPA and 4G/LTE all of their migration paths are moving to one standard estimated migration timeframe is 5 years where everyone will have a standard as HSPA devices or better known as 3G. Its only a matter of time now that all the telcos will have us by our balls.

Feel free to throw in an extra "." now and then

Great info, but tell me something. Now I've never really done the smartphone/geek phone thing to a large extent. I've had my Black Moto Q for close to 2 years now, but Verizon's data plans are horrendous so I've avoided them.

Regardless, I hear a lot of people saying that you don't need WiFi with VZW's sick EVDO network. Does that ever limit one in any way to a phone that does use WiFi, as the CDMA Storm I've learned will not?
