The name of this site is tranceaddict, however, I find more discussion about other electronic music (house, techno etc.) all of which I despise. The reason for my complete disliking of these other variants of electronic music is simple; Trance has made such a profound impact on my life unlike any other form of music. I have found Trance in particular to be very emotional and inspiring, unlike any other form of music I have ever listened to. From my stance. These other variants of electronic music lack emotion. It seems as if they are more "beaty" and boxy and more repetitive than trance. I almost get the feel im listening to hip hop or even some old jazzy bit when I listen to these other variants of electronic music. It affects me greatly to see this transition taking place between the once popular trance from the late 90's to early 2000s into a more "beaty" boxy music movement. I find so many House, Progressive and Techno songs are ever so similar beyond just the base beat. Trance seems to require more skill in making for surely I can put together a beat and some off set chord with ease and try to make it big. What we need is more creativity and less conforming. Less followers and more innovators. Until that Im afraid Trance will continue to decline and we will see our music becoming much like politics of today's society-full of zombies.
You seriously need to broaden your tastes. ALL music has emotion in it. You just need to learn to listen to different genres in a different way.
Trance, Progressive, House etc are all great but in their own way, not to mention other non EDM genres too.

let me rephrase...minimalism is not only applicable to music. To me it is still techno and i don't class it as a sub genre, that is solely my opinion.
Commonly recognised genres can transcend mediums. You can find the genre of "horror" in film, literature and videogames to name but a few. Since sub-genre tags are often repeated, you could say that every sub-genre tag is a potentially detached modus operandi for a given genre.
I too feel what the individual posted as the start of this thread.
Music in general merely captures perhaps what the creative individual was seeking to explain, but could not do so through words or artistic drawings, painting.
Yet, as Trance hit the main stream; many not so creative individuals jumped onto that bandwagon hoping to make a quick $ and the music turns to shit quickly. . .
I mean where is the creative individual apparent in the process of just trying to make a quick $ here and there?
Don't get me wrong there are some amazing producers out there that have their own creativity, but how can someone literally use the same chord progression and change up lets say one key in the progression and some how magically put that shit out onto a label?
That is one thing right off the bat that I think has been the double edge sword for Trance in some aspects. Some of those truly creative individuals out there utilize and build something amazing off the old, then again it reminds me of Vanilla ICE to a greater extent.
I want to puke a little but perhaps all genres have a Vanilla ICE, some more subtle than others albeit in Trance I relate that analogy of Vanilla ICE to ripping off other people's original chord progressions.

Did you miss the "neo-trance" craziness in 06/07 by any chance? That term faded so quickly, it didn't even have time to establish itself.
I never really noticed anything called neo-trance, but just to give you an idea of how new I am, 06 was my first year playing out non-experimental electronic music.
And yep, I'm a fan of Chymera. Melodic techno, sure -- but isn't that exactly what trance is?

d00ds, I've said it before and I'll say it again: Barack Obama is going to revitalize trance.
Think about it...dance music reflects the general climate--earnest, unironic, celebratory trance music was at its biggest when? During the happy days of the late 1990's and the Dot-Com boom. During the gloomy Bush years, it's been a not-so-slow descent into more and more minimal and deep sounds.
It might sound silly, but I'm betting the Obama years spark a comeback in trance.

I'd take a trance like state any day over propaganda, along with the grim reality of a class having only hope and despair. . .economy collapse and the music is going to go into some deterministic chaos.
Did you know Obama is going to use Youtube to address the nation and the entire world who has access to the internet!
I think though I find more peace of mind and a trance from the message people left us and alls what we have left to go on is their music, art, and creativity. . .
Their Dreams
Take for example:

I like trance, but my interests have turned more toward progressive and deep house. I've started going to clubs more often in the past year or so, and it has opened my eyes to how great house really is. Prog house just fits the setting of a nice club much better than trance does. Trance sounds great too, but it just doesn't give me the same feeling that house does. Trance kind of makes me think I'm watching an Initial D video or something. I guess if I was into raving, my opinion might be different.
I saw Armin van Buuren at a club last year and he played some prog house and trance, which surprised me. I thought he would stick with his typical melodic sound. I think trance heads need to open their minds a little more and not be so hung up on ONE GENRE. I can still listen to trance, but after seeing John Digweed live a couple of months ago, most trance just sounds a little cheesy now.
If you can't relate to my "house sounds better at a club" opinion, this is what I am talking about :
edit: I really like what Richard Durand is doing with the genre. His Flight 643 remix for example, is a great way to evolve the genre. I love his techy sound. John O Callaghan & Jon O Bir are great, too.

oh wait, don't misunderstand me...I'm saying Barack Obama is literally going to play trance music and it's going to be pretty good.
