That's why Hezbollah is still there?

from wikipedia:
The conflict killed over a thousand people, widely reported to be mostly Lebanese civilians, severely damaged Lebanese civil infrastructure, and displaced approximately one million Lebanese and 300,000–500,000 Israelis, although most were able to return to their homes. After the ceasefire, some parts of Southern Lebanon remained uninhabitable due to Israeli unexploded cluster bomblets.

This is why Hezbollah is strong as ever.

irrelevant. she clearly did not want to remove her hibihibjab for her own personal reasons, whatever they might be. if you ask many muslim women they'll tell you they want to wear it. its shit that its law in some parts of the world but what are you going to do?

no, im just wondering why someone that gets on his soapyfagbox to defend gay rights would display such a strong disregard for the rights of a third party to observe their faith in such a way.

of course, but just because its a security measure doesn't mean it's not unpleasant. if she wants to complain about it fine, but your reaction:

Would be considering peace realistically if you were living in Gaza right now?

So you do admit the war with Lebenon didnt do nothing to make Israel safer right?
What makes you think they will achieve anything this time around? just because they are dropping more bombs and killing more people it doesnt mean they are going to win a the end.

Which is why I posted the particular link I did (i.e. the one with information on the Israeli destruction of Palestine), and not a link to something unrelated, you fuckin retard.

Wow, after coming back from the weekend, I came back to my thread that turned to shit. Although I pretty much expected that.

Too many non-objective approaches to seeing the conflict.

One thing I have known for quite some time, is that contrary to what someone said earlier, Palestinians DO hate the Israeli's on a general level.

I really wish I could find it (I tried when posting this thread), there was a show on (something like 20/20) that chronicled a summer camp with 10 children. 5 Palestinian and 5 Israeli. They all did their thing together and had a blast. They went their separate ways and this same journalist that hosted the show went back and tracked them all down. None of them would actually associate with the other side. They both harbored hatred toward each other.

There needs to be a cultural shift, but unfortunately the government nor the people are interested in that.

That's retarded. She is in an airport, not in the middle of some street. If you don't want to be asked to remove your head wrap then either don't go to the airport or don't fly to US.

I'm tired of these deluded magical 1,600-5,000 year old fairy tales circumventing all natural course of reason. I am not persecuting you in your temple, I don't tell you what to do everywhere else, but when you are in a public space where the security is of such importance that you have people with assault rifles - then you should have at least the common respect for your fellow travelers to take off what is basically tantamount to a mask.

And that's not even touching the issue of how stupid it is that your god, whether he is real or not, would consider it an offense for you to remove your head dressing.

my issue was with the jake (who has posted at great length regarding gay rights) to be so flippantly derisive of someone else's experience of taking it in the ass from authority. she'd already passed through the security checkpoints.

perhaps you would like to explain to us all what kind of security threat a scarf makes that other items of apparel do not?

Certainly. A hijab can be one that partially covers the face and one that doesn't. The article doesn't specify which one. If we assume it is one that partially covers the face then imagine an airport where every single traveler is wearing something to cover their face and claiming it as a religious right. It's a security nightmare.

See above.

It is because the millenia-old superstitions of the few is exactly what creates these security risks to begin with. The same god that will consider it the greatest insult for her to remove her headscarf is the same guy who tells a bunch of idiots to hijack planes. I don't particularly care whether someone is interpreting this particular religion extremely or not - but the fact remains that this non-sensical beliefs is what elicits these kinds of reactions in airports and with good cause.

Was it likely that this women is a terrorist or a threat? Of course not. But if you give people an inch they will take a foot. The freedom of religion doesn't extend everywhere, nor does it need to.

Niqaabs and burkas always cover the face, hijab covers the face in some instances. It varies from region to region. Since the post doesn't mention her country of origin, it can be one or the other.

The fact remains - it's not like they stripped her naked and made her run through the airport - they asked her to remove her head dressing.

What if *my* religion dictates that I should never remove my coat - do I still have the right to go through the security checkpoint without taking it off?
