You promote for a living, of course you'd say this stuff. It's also how you make money, so of course you're doing it...

Watching those old videos I get this crazy flashback feeling and I try to figure out what made Aria so good. Im always questioning this shit heh. I guess the fact that im much older now changes a lot? Do kids going out to Circus for there first couple times get the same buzz(sober) that I did when I used to go to Aria? Was it those particular years in Montreal? The people? Wtf was it that made that place so amazing !?

those type of drugs are looked upon differently today for starters

I think its because in those years people were really there to hear & dance to their fav DJ or to support the resident.
One would really feel the connection with the crowd & music because they were all there for the same reason.
Every month there were huge names to bring out the even the biggest home body so those people were there to make the best of it and it showed.

I go out WAY less now but when I have it seems alot(not all)people at the afterhours are there more as the after flow from the clubs. Yes they are dancing and having a good time which is what really counts, but ask them the dj's name and maybe 3% can tell you.

The funny feeling DJ Nacht is talking about comes when everyone is excited & there for the headliner of the night and you can just smell the energy from them all. You were able to strike up random conversations with strangers and talk about the music... Now it's much harder to find the appreciation...

I like the massives because it brings back some of the familiar faces
for me...

Thats my take, RIP Aria & Stereo but wow those years were crazy...

Well back then we'd support the resident by being there early and cheering him/her on then really rocking out to the main booking.

Nowadays it seems to "support" the locals you have to attend 50 events per week in various locations around the city, where that local IS in fact the headliner and some other people you don't know are also on the bill.

maybe you're at the wrong parties... but i agree with you.. most of the big djs stick to the easy stuff...

No, I'm just completly bored of the unimaginative, serious and retarded boring minimal shit (tech, house or wtv) that is out there. don't get me wrong, I used to love minimal when it was inspiring and had something to say, now it's just heay let's put some more bleeps there.

Funny how "dj's" realise that dance music is slowly going down and they thought that going to a retarded serious "genre" that is underground would make people want to party more ...

Well one can hope the next bandwagon will be something we can actually have fun with ...

Dance music is going downhill: less and less people are interested by it nowadays, and now dj's play "underground" music (minimal) which is a very serious genre which takes some time to appreciate. People don,t want to party on music that you have to "think" to appreciate.

It's not hard, dance music was always and is still associated with partying and partying implies fun music that doesn't take itself seriously.

Again, don't get me wrong I like minimal and I LOVE techno (real techno not crappy minimal disguising as techno) but it's not party music, it's not going to make people dance, or at least not the elistist few that have been listening to dance music for a while already.

Main difference from my part, considering the 3 years 2005-2008 years I couldn't go to AH, is that I used to go with TAs, now I see Nekya and Francis sometimes. I personally don't feel any different about the music cause I love it all and it makes my brain go crazy most of the time. Is it the connection between the dj and the crowd? Maybe, but I support the dj as much as I can and the dj react to that, but there isn't as many ppl going nuts I guess. Why the others doesn't react the same way? I don't know, but I know it's not the same club and I don't really care what club it is... if you like the music wherever you are, Circus, Stereo, Aria, in your car, you'll have a great time. I can also tell where I go there's always a couple people who I know are having a great time, and who knows I'm having a great time. I don't click with everyone, but when I know at least one other person is having a blast, I smile even more.

Main difference between now and then? We're older.

I remember between 2000-2004, me and all my buddies would hit up Sona, Aria, Stereo, Red-Lite, massives, etc. Those were the university days where no one gave a f**k, and just partied HARD!!

As the years went by, I started losing touch with some of those guys. Some of them moved away, others got married and "grew up", while some others just lost interest.

Today, it's just myself and 1 or 2 of my buddies that still go. And since 2007, I've only been to Pepsi Forum Sasha&Digweed and BeB 2008.

I guess when you're in your late teens/early twenties, all you want to do is party. I'm 27 now and even though I still enjoy partying hard, I have other priorities in my life. Back in school, staying up till 4-6am every friday/Saturday was fine. When you start working, it's a different story.

Just my 2 cents.
