It's about letting the authorities know you are aware of your rights and won't allow your rights to be trampled on. They should know they can't search willy nilly anyone they have a slight hunch might be doing something illegal. I think you forgot to read that part. They can give whatever reason they want. Ive had bit of trouble before with them but im smart enough to know its not by starting shit with them thats gonna fix anything. These searches are not at the border, there on roads that dont even connect to the border directly.
