Why must I ruin every thread I populate?

From that moment on, I could feel the magik flowing through my veins while listening to the music that Tijs carefully samples and produces. His creativity allows him to develop the concepts of songs that bring life and energy to people around the world.

So Atlanta wants drugs, rapage, homosexuality, and overall masochistic insanity. So... why isn't Backstreet still around?

We also want you. Every bit of you. And then a little bit more.

There have been multiple issues:

- Last night, I was blocked from leaving a parking area by a homeless guy. I panicked and gave him money to leave instead of keeping my cool and calling the cops. I was in the wrong here, but still, those guys shouldn't have been there in the first place!

- Sometime near the end of 07, I was trying to find my way to an event in downtown, and a homeless guy gave me directions. "Awesome" I thought. He said he was hungry, so I went to the nearby gas station and bought him some food. The guy flipped out on me when I brought the food "No I want money!" Fuck me for being nice for once...

- If you refuse them money, they start to get mad, like its your duty to help them out! They always think I'm full of money too, just because I wear decent shirts to events. Its almost like I'm being punished for having a night out!

These didn't come up at night, but at other times:

- My mom was in town for a few days for a conference. When I went with her to get lunch around the major hotels, we were hit up for money THREE times in the span of two blocks!

- They creep me the fuck out whenever I go to the McDonalds a block down from the Hyatt. There's always a few of them blocking tables and trying to get money (they NEVER accept food)

So, yeah, this rant mainly came from the BS that happened last night at the lot across from Lava. Promoters: I wouldn't be suprised if homeless people, high parking fees (for INSECURE parking), and general crime are keeping a lot of people away from ATL nightlife altogether. This is a problem that I doubt we can fix, but knowing is half the battle...

Can anyone recommend a parking lot/deck around Opera/Lava that doesn't have this BS going on? I'm willing to pay more at this point for peace of mind.

I always pay to park in the deck in front of Opera and I've never had issues. I've had my car broken into twice when I've parked in surrounding "monitored" lots.

Bong always pretends to not speak English around them Although we did give a man a dollar once because we parked and the dude kept going on and on and on about how Bong's car looked so expensive and like a space ship (it's a damn 09 Civic) so he gave him a dollar so he'd stop eyeing our ride. That was near The Mark.

How did you know?

Sam, Love the pic of Shirley.

The key to the homeless is to not talk to them, and don't make eye contact. Just get out of your car and keep walking. If they ask for something just say you got nothihg if you feel like you need to speak to them.

Exactly.

Most, and I do emphasize most because who knows really, homeless people will not do shit if you just completely ignore them. People who aren't used to handling panhandlers and stuff are funny, they just freak out like it's the end of the world. Just say you don't have any cash, and move on.

Looks like she rides the short bus in that one. lol

I've lived in downtown for 2 years, and it looks like if you change some things up, then you'll be fine.

1: Try at all costs to ignore them. Act like you're out of earshot or are focused on something else.

2: If they do engage you, simply say "Sorry man, all I've got is plastic." They run into thousands of people a night, and realize that it's often true that people don't carry cash, and that they'll run into hundreds of others that aren't you. They should leave you alone.

3: If that doesn't work, just tell them straight up "dude you're freakin' me out. I don't like that." and start walking faster. Most of them are harmless and will back off then.

My first few weeks of living here I gave away nearly $20 in a week to different people just going to class. I realized that I didn't have that kind of money and just told them that I couldn't help them.

A few months later, a friend went to a shelter for a school project and learned that literally 9 out of 10 of them are just addicts who act like they're homeless to get quick cash. Think about it. If some nice person like you helps them out say... 4 times a night? That's potentially $40 or more.

The point is: you can't be a superhero. This is a city, and there is actually a lot of help for them that isn't you. Don't feel obliged to help them out because the majority of them are fake. If they aren't, yes. I feel like an asshole. But I'd rather feel like an asshole than have my night ruined like you did.
