I will check out the vid when I go home, at work now. But if it's anything like I imagine, wow.

Not that this isn't a great track - it sounds perfectly trance-worthy. However, if this is an example of good old days trance, which is not being done anymore, than you're in serious need of some digging I've heard tracks like this so many times it's not even funny. Furthermore, these are all tracks exploiting simple melody structures, and similar structures - how many variations can there possibly be?

What I think, however, that is something you're catching on to is that a huge amount of producers these days are taking the music farrrr too seriously, because pursuit of the big deal (which is nonexistent), or the mythical DJ status, has clouded their sense of fun, and whimsy in music. The best music, for me, is music that falls together naturally - it can be happy, sad, and everything in between; but if it takes itself so seriously you can practically see the scowl on the producers face as he mimics the emotions, it just doesn't work for me.

talking about my opinion in one track and comparing it to ALL of the amazing tracks I used to hear is just ridiculous.

You automatically assume that, because i put up one track that I happened to have heard TODAY in passerby, that this is an exmaple of all the old trance?? thats just it, ALL the old trance had variation, creativity, and thought put into it, thus not many songs sounded exactly the same like they do today.

Please dont make assumptions based on the fact that I overheard a song today, and thought ONE other person may remember it being played at the club during those days. (hence me **only** quoting endlesswave).

I dont need to dig, I have a very well-rounded appreciation for many many tracks from "back in the day." I cant say the same for present day.

lol, I have to look harder for trance stuff too but it's like nowadays I couldn't be bothered... . Even if I do find something that's amazing it's RARE that they'll get the dj to come that plays that stuff. Hmm.

That's why now it's all about the TECHNOOOOOO!

Seriously though, there's still good music out there, it's just that there's a lot more total productions being produced and so you have to be a lot more selective. It's like shopping at a little boutique where they have exactly 12 items that are all worth buying, vs. rummaging through the massive bins of crap at Winners or going through 50 pages of results on eBay. The same shit's there, it's just harder to find.

Trance is different though, because even the "quality" items are just following the same formula from 8 years ago. It's like they're still trying to sell us platform shoes and earth tones, not because it's a sham but because they actually believe they're still in fashion.

The ones who really ARE trying something new are the breaks producers. Basically they got tired of whoring themselves out to all of the other EDM genres and decided to start whoring themselves out to all of the non-EDM genres, so it's common to see breaks tracks that incorporate elements of classic breaks, hip hop, trance AND rock, all in the SAME track. The first time I heard that Numb remix, I said, out loud I believe, "Whoa, they actually made this song not suck!"

The idea that:

"ALL the old trance had variation, creativity, and thought put into it, thus not many songs sounded exactly the same like they do today."

is simply not true. There are hundreds of thousands of artists putting out, in many ways, far more creative and brilliant music than anything I heard out of the late 90's. They just get lost in the shuffle of the hoards.

What I meant about digging is that you aren't taking enough responsibility for the music you take in, otherwise you wouldn't be feeling as if everything is bland and commercial. It's all out there, it's always been out there, it just doesn't present itself for all of our listening pleasure
