the ironic part is that growing up, i was viewed as the problem child because i was wild and got into trouble and partied and dated sketch balls and my sister was always fairly well behaved and independent at an earlier age than me (moved out at 18 and was on her own from then). everyone always assumed i'd be the big fuckup because i attempted college twice and dropped out and partied, etc...


now it looks like she is the complete fuckup and will have the most dysfunctional family and i know for a fact i will have a healthy and happy family and home. patrick and i are on the exact same page about raising children and family values, etc... i'm in no rush to have kids right now but at the same time i can't wait to show how easy it is going to be for me lol

I've got a bit to say on this ...

As some of you know, I live with my girlfriend and her(our) daughter, who just recently turned 4 years old. Her biological father is a retard who lives in (surprise) Indiana, and he subscribes to many of the same lifestyle and nutritional choices as Jamie's sister.

Thankfully she spends the majority of the time at our home (spending every other weekend there) so we have been able to have a significant influence on the way she chooses to view food and what is deemed good, bad, healthy, unhealthy, etc. We eat balanced meals and everything is bought fresh from markets, whether it be meats, produce, dairy, breads, whatever. Obviously there are always exceptions, but generally there is a high priority placed on healthy eating. Her favorite foods are seafood, chicken, asparagus, broccoli, spinach, red peppers, rice, pasta, etc. She knows that eating too much sugar is a bad thing and why it is bad for you. Desserts/candy are earned for good behavior and are not to be expected. She loves to tell people that "Too much McDonald's will make you sick and fat."

So then she spends her weekends in Indiana and all she does is eat shitty fast food and drink sugar-filled shit that turns her into an animal because her body isn't used to processed/unnatural intake. Her father (and step-mother, who is a raging ****, but I digress) are very closed minded so they see nothing wrong with this. When children consume too much sugar/corn syrup it compromises their immune systems, which in turn often causes her to get sick so we end up spending nights up taking care of her (when she is hardly, if ever, sick at our house). They don't encourage her to go to the bathroom as often as she should, they don't brush her teeth (!!), her clothes are always filthy (beyond a regular child). They don't even think she needs to be enrolled in regular pre-school, that it's "glorified daycare." Right.

It frustrates me to no end that people can be so fucking clueless and haphazard about their perspectives on what is "okay" when it comes to raising children. I know it's hard to change your mindset when that's how you were raised, but come on. Some of this is fucking common sense. Thankfully we've got enough of an influence on her life that she will grow up in a safe, happy, healthy home.

Bobby, you pretty much described exactly how I grew up for the most part when it comes to food. We ate so horribly. If/when I ever have kids, I couldn't even fathom raising them the same way.

I really find that quite commendable and awesome that you two are raising her with the values about food that you are. Healthy ftw.

The other thing is when those people's kids turn out to be fuck-ups they'll blame society, the government, the education system, the food companies, vaccination shots etc etc etc but never themselves. As Jaime said ur girls is lucky that she spends most of her time with normal people who actually care about her welfare (rather than just saying they do).
