^^Chill. Sometimes he can be a little blunt but that is only because of his English, he is not a native speaker nor obviously very fluent. I assume he just translates from his native tongue into English and it comes off as harsh or just offensive.

As for the XP comment, i have to disagree. I use Vista on my production PC, but I feel that some software is more stable on XP as well as the latter takes up less resources.

Been running vista 64 on a custom build for well over a year and have not had one problem.

Upgrading W7 64 this weekend, which I am sure wont be fun but after that I am sure I will be problem free for a good 3+ years with W7 64.

sorry u see it that way, obviously you picture everyone that disagree with you as trolls because you are the true oracle right? i hope that someone else can find value in some of my posts, and manage to see through my language, caus what i mostly do is to question the authority's here when i see your convincing noobs to stupid decisions. if not i might just as well grow up AND gtfo, and find something else to do because for my own sakes this forums is nothing but a timethief, it gives me nothing anymore. whatever man im not discussing anything with you anymore.

Pls Provide Source or GTFO

Well, keep in mind this situation is very specific to my particular setup. I highly recommend that you call Apple support and discuss your particular setup with them personally. Because each system and individual setup is different, there is no guarantee that the procedures outlined here will work on your system or produce the expected results.

This procedure does not preserve any installed software or AudioMIDI settings. You will need to reinstall Logic Pro and any 3rd party software (including plugins) after these steps are completed. This procedure contains many steps, so be sure you read through each step carefully before proceeding. Again, ensure you have all user data backed up to an external storage device before performing an Erase & Install or any such data will be lost.

I asked Apple to provide me with procedures to accomplish the following:

  • Preserve all presets for Software Instruments from source machine to backup disk.
  • Preserve all presets for Software Effects from source machine to backup disk.
  • Preserve all presets for Channel Strips from source machine to backup disk.
  • Preserve all Project Templates from source machine to backup disk.
  • Preserve all keyboard shortcuts from source machine to backup disk.
  • Restore all presets for Software Instruments to target machine from backup disk.
  • Restore all presets for Software Effects to target machine from backup disk.
  • Restore all presets for Channel Strips to target machine from backup disk.
  • Restore all Project Templates to target machine from backup disk.
  • Restore all keyboard shortcuts to target machine from backup disk.
  • Perform Erase & Install installation of Apple Mac OS X 10.5 on same disk as existing Apple Mac OS X 10.4 installation.

Here are the procedures recommended by Apple. These are the steps as I remember them.

  1. Backup all user data to external disk or other storage medium. This should include all project specific data and audio files.
  2. Backup all files and folders from /Library/Audio/Presets/*
  3. Backup all files and folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/*
  4. Backup all files and folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic/Key Commands/*
  5. Backup all files and folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic/Plugin Settings/*
  6. Backup all files and folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic/Project Templates/*
  7. Backup all files and folders from /Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/*
  8. Backup all files and folders from /Users/(username)/Library/Audio/Presets/*
  9. Backup all files and folders from /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/*
  10. Backup all files and folders from /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Key Commands/*
  11. Backup all files and folders from /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plugin Settings/*
  12. Backup all files and folders from /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Project Templates/*
  13. Backup all files and folders from /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/*
  14. Insert Mac OS X 10.5 install disc in top CD/DVD ROM Drive.
  15. Reboot Mac. After start up chime hold down C to boot from CD/DVD Drive.
  16. Perform Erase & Install procedure from Mac OS X 10.5 CD.
  17. After OS installation, launch Software Update and download/install any recommended software updates. Repeat this procedure until Software Update reports "Your computer is up to date". This step may require one or more reboots of your Mac.
  18. Eject Mac OS X 10.5 install disc and insert Logic Pro install disc.
  19. Install Logic Pro from Logic Pro installation media. Installation instructions for Logic Pro can be found in the Logic Pro manual. Be sure you have all nine Logic Pro installation discs at hand before proceeding.
  20. Launch Software Update again and install any available updates to Logic Pro
  21. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Library/Audio/Presets/*
  22. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/*
  23. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Library/Application Support/Logic/Key Commands/*
  24. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Library/Application Support/Logic/Plugin Settings/*
  25. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Library/Application Support/Logic/Project Templates/*
  26. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/*
  27. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Users/(username)/Library/Audio/Presets/*
  28. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/*
  29. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Key Commands/*
  30. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plugin Settings/*
  31. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Project Templates/*
  32. Restore all files and folders from backup disk to /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/*
  33. Restore any user data from external disk or other storage medium. This should include all project specific data and audio files.
  34. Install any 3rd party software (including plugins).
  35. Done

Again, I highly recommend discussing your particular situation with Apple Support before proceeding. They are very helpful and should be able to present you with the manufacturer recommended procedures for accomplishing your goals.

woh.

Anyway, being a windows user I save all my presets in the same place and cope them over.

Also once I've rebuilt my system with a new OS/all VST's I'll ghost and image and update that now and again so it can be restored if the drive goes.

I just upgraded to W7 a couple days ago, and nearly everything is going swimmingly...The only issue I've had is with two plugins that I don't know how to transfer over...So I can't really move completely to W7 until I can reformat my other drive and install Komplete 5.

@Cryo: Did you get your PSP Nitro and Ultra Analog transferred over without hiccups? I can't authorize them :/

Yeah - I had no problem (on W7 32-bit). Are you on 32-bit or 64-bit? Did they install OK?

Yeah, 32bit here as well...They installed fine, and open up in my DAW (Which is Pro-Tools LE). However, PSP asks for the code, I put that in, and it works fine...Until I restart, whereupon it asks for authorization yet again. Ultra Analog just won't let me re-register with the challenge/response method, ergo I'm dead in the water in 14 days or so.
