Thank you A logical response!

This is what I am trying to get at. My argument is that people justify eating meat in 1 of 3 ways: Anthropological/Evolutionary reasoning, Religious reasoning, or Others (egocentrism, anthropocentrism etc.) Seems like most of you fall under 'others'.

I was hoping that there would be some logical arguments for the first 2 as I had assumed that most reasonable people would be able to break it down to that point. However, it seems that for the most part, people fall under the 'other' category.

EDIT:

Again, I am a meat eater so your ridiculous responses are lost on me.

the philosophy of eating meat seems really stupid when a large majority of people fall into the other category, i.e. they like to eat it.

ultimately you're trying to figure out what we "should" do. but what's the right thing to do? ethics gets a little shaky when you bring animals into the mix. if i walk around and step on ants, is that ethically wrong?

Apes did at some point begin to subside on high-meat diets. Hence, us.

I wouldn't say that we do it for taste - rather, the opposite. The sensation of taste developed to provide incentive for us to acquire nourishment that was obviously beneficial to mental development.

How about the fact that heart disease, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, MS, parkinsons, diabeties, and many other diseases common in "the west" either don't exist or are statistically insignificant in populations that consume less then 10% of their caloric intake from animal products? That would seem to suggest that eating meat is not really ideal for our bodies, no?

Maasai and traditional Inuit also have much lower rates of cancers and heart disease, and live on animal products almost exclusively.

No. You're disregarding the fact that those populations also differ on a million other points.

I think "Western" diseases are a result of (a) eating too fucking much (b) eating too much junk from which most nutrients have been processed out and (c) sitting on our butts.

They also have much shorter life spans; subsequently, diseases then tend to strike in old age don't typically have time to develope.

WRONG. CORRELATION EQUALS CAUSATION. GLOBAL WARMING IS CAUSED BY AN ABSENCE OF PIRATES.
