i think most saying it isn't worth it probably don't take into account the price of software. The virus is not a bad purchase and will retain a portion of its value. A good software synth will cost around 400$ and it will be worth nothing in 2 years. I think software is sort of the luxury for professionals that can keep buying the updates. It sounds a little backwards but alot of hardware seems more geared towards intermediate producers that don't really make money but have enough to buy a few things here and there. Software is more like leasing.

The last "big" studios I have been in have really lost all those synth racks that they probably had only 5 years prior. It is more practical and they can get the same results with a vst that takes up zero space. The studios were not EDM specific but sound design did play an integral part of the work. I personally don't enjoy the sight of hardware and prefer a more natural looking studio with art and furniture but if you are on a budget, getting a virus B isn't such a bad idea. I remember getting one for 800 years ago so i'm pretty sure you could find them for 500 or so.

have been fortunate and have never had any problems with my second hand purchased Virus TI desktop. It was previously owned by Kevin Rudolf so I'm sure it got a lot of use, but zero problems since the day I got it. I am using OS 3.3 on Windows Vista and XP and using the USB route. The Virus is easily worth the price tag in my opinion. Not only are its sounds amazing, but it relieves a lot of your CPU from big voice sounds which is something I think people tend to overlook and forget about. Atmospheric sounds that used to chew up 25% of my processor alone are no more!

It's really a do-it-all machine. All I have used lately is Trillian and my Virus. Great, great production instruments.

Robby you have probably posted this somewhere else but what setup are you running? I recall you using FLS which I'm guessing is the main culprit here. The "it is too buggy for macs" problem was addressed with the most recent update.
