Might that have to do with the fact that you and the rest of the underground scene keep switching up artists/genres so fast? MNML was the "it" genre not too long ago and now look what's happened. It wasn't inherently more creative than trance, it was just a different take on a 4/4 beat that everyone got bored of eventually. You just can't listen to EDM as much as we do without switching things up because every style gets stale after a while. The average weekend listener doesn't have this problem.

Out of curiosity, how many producers/dj's are you still listening to that you loved 5 years ago? 3 years?

I know man. I'm lucky MP3 files can't wear out cause I'd be on my 20'th copies of "silence" and "one more time" by now.

Wouldn't be surprised if the folks exclusively posting in the symphony discussion section on Operaaddict.com call Beethoven a sellout given hes the most well known composer in that genre

Sure, except theres pretty much nothing in EDM these days thats "at the tip of the artistic sword." Most everyone is just producing songs with the same recycled themes that have been played out for years. It's just a matter of the producer choosing which audience to cater to with his sound. It's an interesting choice that everyone can obviously have varying opinions on, but its not as though theres inherently more value in making one type of recycled music over another.

Agree and disagree. There are a lot of artists currently out there in the trance genre that have their own unique sound.

Gareth Emery uses a lot of uplifting synth melodies

Andy Moor uses this haunting female voice blended in as a melody instead of as a dominating vocal

Sander van Doorn has the whole digital take on the joke 'How do you name a chinese baby' thing going

The recycled sound for me is the number of remixes of classics that were already remixed plenty of times years back that have been coming out lately.
