perhaps your problem is that you're too closed minded to appreciate more subtle changes in themes and subtext, and only open to accept the perversely obvious when it's thrust into your face under neon lights like the rest of the populous of this fear-driven consumer society we live in.

I agree with you on what the problem is (way too easy to make crappy music), but I disagree that DJs are the solution. Rather, I think that they are responsible for an entirely different problem.

It is very difficult to find decent trance music that does not have a full 2 minutes (1 minute intro, 1 minute outro) of nothing but the kick drum and some basic percussion. I understand why DJ mixes need this when playing music in the club, but if I listen to 10 trance tracks in my car on a drive, I have listened to 20 minutes of nothing but empty percussion. That sucks and needs to change. People need to stop making music for DJs and start making music that normal people want to hear. Let DJ's worry about mixing the tracks for dance sets and focus on making a great song.

This is one of the things i love about this music, long intros, buildups, smooth transistions and such, a track can really tell a good story.
There is enough DJ mixes and compilations for this to not be a huge problem, and the best of all, you can always make your own mix.

or you can always edit a track to start with a fade into the 33rd bar and fade out the outro if you really feel this strongly about intros and outros. It takes like 30 seconds to do, you jsut gotta stop being lazy

That's easy to say to someone like me who has the technology to do it. But, people wonder why Trance is losing popularity - normal people do not want 2 minutes of intro/outro when listening to a song. For christ's sake, even as someone who loves the music and has the technology - I do not want to sit down in front of Logic editing someone else's track so I can listen to it in my car - that is the original artist's job! If I am doing anything on my DAW, its going to be editing my own stuff.

I know several people who enjoy trance tracks (once they get going), but they all have the same reaction when a song starts - they want to change the station or MP3 after hearing nothing but the kick drum for 10 seconds. Unfortunately, people have short attention spans and get bored after listening to a kick for a few seconds, much less 32 bars.

Almost every commercial trance/dance track has this, because of this exact reason.
